A method of integrating an optoelectronic device, for example a vertical cavity surface emitting laser, onto the electronic substrate of a parallel optical transceiver package by positioning and maintaining the exact relative alignment of the optoelectronic device relative to the electronic substrate for application of adhesive and curing. The method includes the utilization of a multi-piece fixture which clamps the elements into position and maintains position throughout the curing process. Alternatively, the fixture can comprise a unitary assembly for clamping the elements into position and maintaining their position throughout the curing process.

Method and apparatus for the integration of a VCSEL flex with a parallel optical transceiver package

An equipment tray of sheet metal having a base with a bottom section and a set of four sides integral to the bottom section with each of the four sides extending outward from the base to form a compartment therein and at least one of the sides having a beveled lip extending along a first portion of the side to provide stiffness to the base to avoid the 'oil can effect' occurring with sheet metal trays. A further feature of the inventions is the inclusion of a cover retaining slot formed in the base by having a second portion of a side configured to coact with a beveled edge to form a cover retaining slot between the second portion of the side and the beveled edge to prevent lateral movement of the cover.

A method of positioning an optoelectronic device, for example a vertical cavity surface emitting laser, onto an optical fiber connector and maintaining that exact alignment while testing the quality of the optical output prior to applying an adhesive to make the interface permanent. The method includes the utilization of a multi-piece fixture which clamps the elements into position, allows for testing, and provides a fixture to maintain position throughout the curing process.

A method of securing articles to each other and an alignment and holding apparatus comprising a platform having an alignment member for positioning and holding a first article, such as a substrate, in a first position and a further alignment member for aligning extensions of a second article, such as a lead frame, in an assembleable position with respect to the first article while a spacer maintains the extensions in proper lateral position and a clamp that secures the extensions proximate the first article while an electrical connection is formed between the first article and the extensions of the second article.

An elastomer isolator mount that can provide both compressive support and shear support to enable the elastomer isolator mount to attenuate shock and vibration forces to an object carried by the elastomer isolator mount with the ratio of compressive support to shear support controllable by the diameter of a plurality of angled holes in relation to width of a top support surface and the dynamic response characteristics of the elastomer isolator mount further controllable by selecting the shape of the sidewalls of the elastomer isolator mount. A plurality of elastomer isolator mounts can be further arranged in a group to provide a support platform for an object.

A shock isolator for a housing in an offset compressive axis with the shock isolator including either an elastomer triad or a hollow elastomer tetrahedron with each having support surfaces thereon that are laterally offset from each other to prevent direct axial compression with each of the shock isolators providing shock and vibration attenuation not normally obtainable in a direct axially compression condition.

A grass trimmer with a trimmer shield that can be manually assembled to the housing without the use of tools is disclosed. The trimmer shield can also preferably be disassembled from the housing by a consumer to allow for replacement of the trimmer shield. One preferred trimmer shield includes at least one retaining member that prevents translational movement of the trimmer shield and at least one retaining member that prevents deflection of the trimmer shield in a vertical direction.
