A connector for use in constructing an earth stabilizing structure with the capability of yielding horizontally to excessive impact loads. The connector comprises a slotted metal plate which may be used to form connections along a horizontal reinforcing member or between the reinforcing member and a facing element. The slot has a larger transverse dimension at one end and narrows toward its opposite end. A bolt, pin or connecting arm having a cross-sectional dimension which allows for insertion into the widest end of the slot, but which provides resistance upon movement toward the opposite end of the slot, is inserted through the slot, providing a connection between the metal plate and another component of the earth stabilizing structure. As the bolt, pin or connecting arm is moved toward the narrow end of the slot, it engages the edges of the slot and provides full design strength by mechanical interference. As an additional load beyond the anticipated design load is imposed, the bolt, pin or connecting arm is forced toward the narrow end of the slot, deforming the edges of the slot as it moves. After slipping, the connection returns to a condition of safe stress. The metal plate may be positioned at any point along a reinforcing member. It may also be positioned on a bracket which provides the connection point between a facing element and a reinforcing member. The plate may be either connected to or integrated within the bracket or reinforcing member.

Horizontally-yielding earth stabilizing structure

A construction for a retaining wall member utilizes a preformed channel in the member communicating through a slit formed between the channel and one face of the member for retention of a tieback utilized to affix the member to an underlying mass. The tieback may be retained by the mechanical interference between the walls of the slit and an enlarged portion of the tieback located within the channel. Alternatively, an interference rod may be inserted into the channel to retain the tieback.

Retaining wall structure

A retaining wall system is made up of standardized posts and face panels formed of a polymeric cementitious material which are reinforced by a lattice-like polymer grid embedded in the posts and panels during their formation. Similar lattice-like polymer grids are mechanically attached to the grids embedded in the panels to project horizontally from the panels and to be embedded in earth fill at one side of the wall to permanently anchor the wall in position.

Retaining wall system

Generally described is a hydraulically-actuatable elevator system wherein the vertically reciprocatable cargo-carrying carrier member is suspended from a lofty superstructure by at least one hydraulically-actuatable elongate piston of the casing/plunger type. An electrically powered pump means, having a fluids reservoir co-movably mounted with the carrier, forceably introduces hydraulic fluid along a primary-line into the piston casing thereby decreasing the piston overall length causing the carrier to ascend, and controlled withdrawal of hydraulic fluid from the piston to the reservoir through a secondary-line (provided with an electrically governable checkvalve) allowing the weighty carrier member to descend. An emergency-line communicating between the piston casing and reservoir parallels the secondary-line and bypasses the pump means and the checkvalve and has a normally-closed barrier which is mechanically openable by a carrier passenger whereby the carrier can be made to descend in the contingency of electrical power failure.

Hydraulically-actuatable elevator system

Operating mechanism for doorway closures of the rollably suspended overlapping and interdependently laterally moving two panels type. The operating mechanism comprises a transversely extending shaft which is powerably turnable in both angular directions and which is laterally co-movably mounted to the slower near-panel. There is a dual-arms lever which at its medial turning-point is co-turnably attached to the transverse shaft and is laterally co-movable with the near-panel. A far-link has its ends respectively pivotably attached at a lofty elevation of the far-panel and to the lever second-arm a judicious finite-distance from the turnable shaft, and a near-link has its ends respectively pivotably attached to the lever first-arm and at a lofty immovable-location of the doorway nearward framework. For the accordingly interdependently laterally movable overlapping closure panels, there are stop means to limit turning of the transverse shaft and lever in both angular directions as the panels approach fully-open and fully-closed positions across the doorway opening.

Operating mechanism for overlapping panels type doorway closures

Reinforced perforate tags ordinarily comprise a longitudinally semi-flexible cellulosic or other sheet material card together with a geometrically-offset perforation reinforced with grommet or eyelet to provide the composite tag's thickest part. Because natural stacking of such offset reinforced tags is impractical, system users thereof such as printers, laminaters, etc., are impeded or otherwise handicapped in their repetitive work. However, a uniquely positioned upright elongate-rod extending obliquely upwardly and slidably through theh respective reinforced perforations tiltably forces the individual tags'card main body into parallelism. With the aid of an upright abutment-plate having a frontal-face lying parallel to the elongate-rod plane and together with gradual upward elevation for the tags stack, successive uppermost tags are made readily available at constant-elevation for systems type users such as automatic printers, laminaters, etc.
