A control system for an air dryer that switches the flow and counter flow of air through each of two desiccant towers in response to a drying cycle period that is proportional to the saturation partial pressure of water vapor in the inlet air stream as determined by the temperature of the stream of air in the inlet of the air dryer. The system may also include a proximity sensor positioned in the back flow check valve between the first main reservoir and the second main reservoir to further adjust the regeneration cycle period according to the flow rate through the air dryer.

Control of an air dryer regeneration cycle

A filter having two drain valves piloted by an electro-pneumatic valve. A check valve may be provided to by pass the filter. A membrane filter housing may include vanes extending into a reservoir in which the membrane filter extends. Also, one of the circumferential recesses of the bore for the membrane filter is in the reservoir.

Membrane air dryer

An air dryer includes a housing with an air inlet, an air outlet and a liquid drain outlet; and a membrane separator having surfaces extending between a first and second ends of the membrane. A first passage in the housing is connected to the air inlet and air outlet at it respective ends and extends between the first and second ends of the membrane separator along the surfaces of the membrane separator. A second passage in the housing is connected to the drain outlet and air outlet at it respective ends and extends between the first and second ends of the membrane along a surface of the membrane separator. A valve is connected between the second passage and the drain outlet for controlling the draining of the liquid and sweep air flow through the second passage. The dryer is to be inserted in a reservoir at its inlet or outlet. A coalescing filter may be provided in the housing in series with the membrane separator and the housing would include a second drain for the coalescing filter.

Air dryer for a brake system

A filter includes a housing having an air inlet, an air outlet, a first chamber and a second chamber concentric to and interior the first chamber. A coalescer is in the first chamber and a first filter is in the second chamber. A first inlet of the first chamber is interior the coalescer and connected to the air inlet and a first outlet of the first chamber being exterior the coalescer. A second inlet of the second chamber is interior the first filter and connected to the first outlet of the first chamber and a second outlet of the second chamber is exterior the first filter and connected to the air outlet. The filter includes a membrane separator in the housing connecting the second outlet of the second chamber and the air outlet. The filter may be mounted in a reservoir with the membrane separator extending into the reservoir.

Air dryer with pre-filter

The membrane air dryer includes a housing with an air inlet adjacent a first end of the housing, an air outlet adjacent a second end of the housing, a sweep air inlet and a sweep air outlet. A membrane separator has surfaces extending between and connected to the air inlet and the air outlet. A first sweep air passage in the housing extends between the first and second ends of the membrane along and including surfaces of the membrane. The first sweep air passage has an inlet adjacent the air outlet and an outlet adjacent the air inlet and connected to the sweep air outlet. The sweep air inlet and outlet is adjacent the air inlet. A second sweep air passage in the housing extends between the first and second ends of the membrane. The second sweep air passage has an inlet that is connected to the sweep air inlet and is adjacent the air inlet and has an outlet that is adjacent the air outlet and in fluid communication with the inlet of the first sweep air passage. The membrane air dryer may be mounted to extend into the reservoir.

Membrane air dryer with sweep air control

A membrane air dryer includes a housing with an air inlet, an air outlet, a sweep air inlet and a sweep air outlet; and a membrane separator having surfaces extending between and having an inlet and an outlet respectively connected to the air inlet and the air outlet. A sweep air passage in the housing extends between first and second ends of the membrane along and includes surfaces of the membrane. The sweep air passage has an inlet adjacent the air outlet and has an outlet adjacent the air inlet and connected to the sweep air outlet. A volume is concentric to the membrane separator, has an inlet connected to the outlet of the membrane separator and has an outlet connected to the sweep air inlet. The filter may be mounted in a reservoir with the membrane separator extending into the reservoir.

Membrane air dryer with pre-charge volume

A brake actuator vibration isolation system wherein a spring is provided between and separates an actuator and a lever of a caliper for retarding vibration of the actuator relative to the lever when the brake assembly is not actuated. The spring is preloaded by the actuator pin and one or more washers. The spring characteristics are selected to retard the anticipated vibration of the actuator relative to the lever when the brake caliper assembly is not actuated. Selecting includes selecting the preloading of the spring by the actuator pin, selecting the thickness of a washer about the actuator pin to vary the preloading of the spring, and selecting the material of the spring, its cross-section as well as other characteristics.

Brake actuator vibration isolation system

A system includes rigid non-metal washers separating a caliper lever from the bridge, a rigid non-metal bridge bushing separating a shaft of a bridge pin from the bridge and a rigid non-metal lever bushing separating the bridge pin from the lever. The bridge bushing and lever bushing absorb shock and transmit forces between the bridge pin, bridge and lever during the initial phase of the actuation of the brake caliper assembly. A non-metal spring is provided between the bridge pin and the lever to retard vibration of the bridge pin relative to the lever when the brake caliper assembly is not activated. The spring preferably includes at least one ring between the bridge pin and the lever and is in a recess of the lever bushing. The ring is pre-loaded by the bridge pin.
