A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines has a pump piston that is axially and rotationally movable in a cylinder and has a control edge and a diversion edge that defines a recess in the jacket face of the pump piston. To limit and adjust the effective supply stroke, the control edge and the diversion edge cooperate with a control opening in the cylinder, which opening communicates with a fuel-filled low-pressure chamber. To prevent cavitation damage during the diversion process, a pre-diversion groove, which extends approximately parallel to the diversion edge, is provided in the portion of the jacket face of the pump piston defined by the control edge and the diversion edge. It is disposed at a distance from the diversion edge such that immediately before the entry of the diversion edge into the control opening, representing the onset of diversion, it connects the pump work chamber, which is at high pressure, to the control opening.

Fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines

A fuel injection system, especially for Diesel engines using relatively hard-to-ignite fuels. The system includes a low pressure pump for delivering an easily ignitable fuel into a pre-storage chamber within a pressure divider. A high-pressure pump delivers the main fuel component and also applies pressure to an expulsion piston which expels the prestored igniter fuel. A number of embodiments is presented.

The invention relates to a fuel injection system with a device for controlling the preliminary and principal injections wherein control is effected by intermediate relief of the injection pressure which includes a slide valve for exerting the control which is braked during its reverse movement before interrupting the connection between the pressure chamber of the injection nozzle and the delivery line leading to the injection pump to thereby make possible the relief of the pressure chamber toward the injection pump, i.e. to avoid dribbling.

Improvements in a fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines having a needle valve positioned in a chamber constrained by a closure spring positioned in another chamber thereabove, there also being provided an intermediate piston which includes a portion that extends into the spring chamber therebeneath and further includes a working surface area that is subjected to pressures in still another chamber positioned thereabove.
