A stylus for a handheld computing device has a clip with detents and spaced apart ribs for securing the stylus in a stylus slot of the handheld device. The clip has grooves on the outward-facing surface, making the clip easier to grasp in order to remove the stylus from the stylus port. The stylus can include a replaceable, retractable ball point pen tip extending from the end of the stylus opposite the stylus tip.

Stylus and retractable pen

An expandable pen has a pen barrel with an expanding middle section. The pen barrel holds a retractable ball point pen refill cartridge When the pen is expanded, the writing tip of the refill is extended from a retracted position inside the pen barrel to a writing position, while the barrel becomes full length for comfort when writing. The pen may be collapsed for storage, which simultaneously retracts the writing tip inside the pen barrel.

Expandable writing instrument

A hand instrument with variable grip arrangement has an instrument body of the type to be held between the fingers of the hand for use, the body having an active end and an opposite end. A resilient material forms a grip around the body near the active end. Radial expansion beams are under the grip for bending radially outwardly for expanding the grip into an expanded ergonomic position and for resiliently returning to a straightened condition for contracting the grip into a contracted storage position. Cams or threads or other mechanisms engage the beams for moving them between the expanded and the contracted positions with rotation of a part of the instrument body.

Variable contour grip

A leadless component socket comprises a one- or two-piece leadless component contact socket assembly having a plurality of holes with a respective plurality of spring contacts disposed therein. The socket assembly includes a finger slot or slots to facilitate the manual removal of a chip carrier from the socket and a bias clip and integral keyed corner for assuring proper alignment of the chip carrier with the contacts of the socket assembly. The socket further comprises a cover, a cover support, an insulator assembly and a backup plate or other fastening means for supporting the socket on a printed circuit board. The socket assembly can be configured with a variety of contact terminal ends adapted for a desired mode of circuit board interface. A variety of cover configurations are also accommodated and disclosed. The socket disclosed includes implementations of modular pad array interface for board-to-flex circuit; board-to-board; and board to multi-chip module applications utilizing alternative configurations of substantially rectangular modular blocks.

Modular pad array interface

An electronic memory module socket is provided in which a memory module is easily insertable into and removable from the socket, and once inserted is locked into position for good mechanical retension of the module and proper electrical contact between socket contacts and module contacts. Locking-arms disposed at respective ends of the socket cooperate with openings in the memory module's circuit board to lock the module into the socket body. Detents are provided at respective ends of the socket body to additionally latch the module.
