A method of configuring a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection between a first and second devices, the USB connection comprising a plurality of data channels, each having a pair of signal links, each signal link including a port at either end of the connection, and a signal wire formed of one or more physical wires extending between corresponding ports. Each of the signal links are configured with a first direction for transmission of data. The first direction is determined based on an initial required data transmission capacity in each direction between the first and second devices. Thereafter, depending on required capacity in the different directions, a selection is made which of the signal links should change their direction of transmission from the first direction to a second direction and a redirection signal is sent to each of the selected signal links to cause the change in direction of transmission.

A method for adapting display data forming an image for display on a display screen to a viewer involves monitoring, over time, light that may affect an eye of the viewer of the image, analysing (S) information regarding the monitored light based on one or more predetermined parameters (which may be based on a predetermined model of reactions of a human eye to light or to changes in light), adjusting (S) at least one display value (preferably not a luminance value) of at least some of the display data based on the analysis of the monitored light, compressing the adjusted display data, and sending (S) it for display on the display screen. In one embodiment, the one or more predetermined parameters includes one or more colour thresholds and monitoring the light comprises monitoring relative levels of different colours in the monitored light.

Adaptive compression by light level

A method of controlling a wireless docking station, which has one or more peripheral devices connected thereto, which are controllable from a mobile device when the mobile device is docked with the wireless docking station. The method involves receiving (S) a sensing signal indicating that a user is proximate the peripheral device(s) and detecting (S) that a mobile device is within a predetermined range of the wireless docking station. An identification of the mobile device is determined and the user is requested (S) to confirm that the user wants to dock the mobile device having the identification with the wireless docking station. When a confirmation signal (S) is received, an authentication of the mobile device having the identification is permitted to be performed whereby the mobile device having the identification is docked (S) with the wireless docking station if the authentication is successful.

An apparatus for co-ordinating display data sent to a display device includes two or more panels or sub-displays together forming a single display screen for displaying at least one complete image. Each display panel has a display input for receiving display data of part of the complete image from a corresponding display output of a display control device. The display control device receives, from a host device, packets of display data destined for one of the display panels. The display control device directs the packets to one or more processors in the display control device for processing and storing the display data in a respective buffer according to which respective display panel the display data is destined for. The processed display data is output from the buffers at a synchronized time to the display output corresponding to the respective display panel for which the display data is destined.

Method and apparatus for controlling a display comprising two or more panels

This invention relates to a method, a computer program product, an apparatus and a system for switching a first switching unit of an apparatus into a state out of a set of states, wherein said apparatus comprises a first serial interface and a second serial interface, each of this first and second serial interfaces comprises at least one data line and a power supply line, and wherein said first switching unit is coupled to the power supply line of both said first serial interface and said second serial interface, wherein said set of states comprises a first state for connecting the power supply of said first serial interface to the power supply of said second serial interface, and a second state for connecting the power supply of said first serial interface to a first further power supply line, said first further power supply line being configured to be connected to a first power supply.

In example embodiments of the invention, a method comprises: determining whether a connector includes a cable indication that indicates its cable is capable of conducting an elevated power level above a level of a legacy cable; transmitting an offer to a device connected by the cable, to provide one or more supported power capabilities above the level of a legacy cable, if the cable indication is determined to indicate that the cable is capable of conducting an elevated power level above the level of a legacy cable; and transmitting an offer to a device connected by the cable, to provide the power level of a legacy cable, if the cable indication is determined to indicate that the cable is not capable of conducting an elevated power level above the level of a legacy cable.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for cable detection and power negotiation

A method comprises the steps of determining values of one or more parameters of a first energy reservoir in a first device and corresponding parameters of a second energy reservoir in a second device, and setting a direction for transferring energy between the first energy reservoir and the second energy reservoir.
