The present disclosure provides an article including an organic layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures defining nanorecesses and an opposing second surface; and a ceramic layer disposed on the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer and filling at least a portion of the nanorecesses. The ceramic layer has a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and the nanostructured first surface of the ceramic layer is interpenetrated with the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article. The method includes obtaining an organic layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures defining nanorecesses and an opposing second surface; and filling at least a portion of the nanorecesses of the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer with a ceramic material to form the article. In addition, the present disclosure provides articles including interpenetrating layers having different elastic storage moduli, such as non-metallic layers, and methods of making the articles. The articles can exhibit high abrasion resistance.

Articles including nanostructured surfaces and interpenetrating layers, and methods of making same

[Resolution Means] A laminate of an embodiment of the present disclosure has a substrate and a surface layer containing a cured product of a radiation-curable ink, the radiation-curable ink containing inorganic nanoparticles, a polyether-modified polymer, and at least one selected from the group consisting of a radiation-curable polymerizable oligomer and a radiation-curable polymerizable monomer, and the surface layer having a 60° surface glossiness of 50.0 GU or less.

Orthodontic articles and polymerizable resin compositions are described. The orthodontic article comprises a cured composition comprising the reaction product of free-radically polymerizable resin comprising 30 to 70 wt. %, inclusive, of at least one urethane component, and 25 to 70 wt. %, inclusive, of reactive diluent(s) comprising at least one monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer. The polymerizable resin comprises no greater than 35 wt. % of reactive diluent(s) having a high affinity for water. Reactive diluent(s) such as monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomers having a high affinity for water have low log P values. In one embodiment, the polymerizable resin comprises at least one acidic monomer.

Orthodontic articles comprising cured free-radically polymerizable composition with improved strength in aqueous environment

Polymerizable compositions suitable for use for 3D printed (e.g. orthodontic) articles, especially orthodontic alignment trays, are described. The polymerizable composition comprises a) 30-70 parts by weight of (meth)acrylate monomer(s); and b) urethane (meth)acrylate polymer; wherein the reaction product comprises at least 1 wt. % polymerized units of a multifunctional compound comprising pendent cyclic moieties. The orthodontic article comprises the reaction product of a polymerizable composition as described herein. The urethane (meth)acrylate polymer typically comprises polymerized units of a multifunctional compound comprising pendent cyclic moieties and/or at least one (meth)acrylate monomer comprises polymerized units of a multifunctional compound comprising pendent cyclic moieties. Also described are methods of making an article, non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising data representing a three-dimensional model of an article, and systems.

A display film includes a transparent cross-linked polyurethane acrylate layer. The transparent cross-linked polyurethane acrylate layer having a glass transition temperature of 10 degrees Celsius or less and a Tan Delta peak value of 0.5 or greater.

A nanostructured article includes a substrate; a plurality of first nanostructures disposed on, and extending away from, the substrate; and a covalently crosslinked fluorinated polymeric layer disposed on the plurality of first nanostructures. The polymeric layer at least partially fills spaces between the first nanostructures to an average minimum height above the substrate of at least 30 nm such that the polymeric layer has a nanostructured surface defined by, and facing away from, the plurality of first nanostructures.

A method of making a shaped abrasion-resistant multilayer optical film includes providing a curable composition comprising, based on the total weight of components a) to d) components: a) 87 to 96 weight percent of urethane (meth)acrylate compound having an average (meth)acrylate functionality of 2 to 4.8; b) 2 to 12.5 weight percent of (meth)acrylate monomer having a (meth)acrylate functionality of 1 to 2, wherein the (meth)acrylate monomer does not comprise a urethane (meth)acrylate compound; optionally c) 0.5 to 2 weight percent of silicone (meth)acrylate; and d) optional effective amount of photoinitiator. The curable composition is coated onto an MOF. Optionally, the curable composition to is at least partially dried. Next, the curable composition or the at least partially dried curable composition is at least partially cured to provide an abrasion-resistant multilayer optical film. Lastly, the abrasion-resistant multilayer optical film is thermoformed using a female mold having a mold surface. At least a portion of the mold surface has a radius of curvature of 58 to 76 mm and a maximum depth of 13 to 20 mm.

Thermoformed abrasion-resistant multilayer optical film and method of making the same

An orthodontic article is described comprising the reaction product of a free-radically polymerizable resin; a first free-radical photoinitiator having sufficient absorbance at a first wavelength range; and a second free-radical initiator selected from a second photoinitiator having sufficient absorbance at a second wavelength range, wherein the second wavelength range is different than the first wavelength range, or a thermal free-radical initiator. In some embodiments, the first free-radical photoinitiator exhibits a maximum absorbance at a wavelength of the range of 370-380 nm or 320-330 nm and/or comprises photoinitiator groups selected from acyl phosphine oxide or alkyl amine acetophenone.
