Provided are encased parallel channel adsorbent contactor apparatus and systems and swing adsorption processes related thereto. Encased parallel channel adsorbent contactors are useful in swing adsorption processes. A plurality of the encased adsorbent contactors are loaded and sealed together in a swing adsorption vessel such that substantially an entire feed stream must pass through the channels of the contactors and not through stray gaseous stream paths between contactors.

The invention relates to a process for converting hydrocarbons into unsaturated products such as acetylene and/or ethylene. The invention also relates to converting acetylene to olefins such as ethylene and/or propylene, to polymerizing the olefins, and to equipment useful for these processes.

Hydrocarbon conversion process

A reactor with minimal dead volume especially suited to reverse-flow applications comprises: a) a reactor body; b) a first head engaged with said reactor body; c) a first conduit extending from outside said head to at least partially through said head; and d) a first valve in flow communication with said first conduit controlling fluid flow along a flow path extending from the first valve and through the reactor body. The reactor is especially suited for use in a process for rapid stream-switching of at least two streams in a reverse-flow reactor.

A system and method for optimizing the response of a metal loss sensor which is configured in a way that its insertion depth and orientation in the process fluid are adjustable. These adjustments affect local turbulence and thereby enable achieving a desired corrosion rate at the metal loss sensor. Corrosion rate comparison between the metal loss sensor and pressure containment boundary can be measured directly or indirectly by computing wall shear stresses at the sensor and the pressure containment boundary.

A multi-element housing is disclosed for the containment of multiple membrane separation elements in parallel. The multi-element housing is characterized in that the elements are grouped in parallel with a feed/retentate zone, defined by a space enclosed by two tube sheets arranged at the same end of the elements. The central mandrels of the elements pass through the feed/retentate zone space defined by the two tube sheets and empty permeate outside the defined space into a permeate collection zone from which it is removed, while the tube sheet directly attached to the element is in open relationship to the interior of the membrane element and retentate accumulates in the space between the top tube sheet and the bottom tube sheet from which it is removed.

Multi-element housing

A stack damper valve comprising a pair of semicircular steel discs typically joined by a removable piano-type hinge. Each of the discs pivot upwardly in the direction of flow from a closed to an open position and vice versa. In the closed position the discs seat in a metal-to-metal relationship against a circular truncated steel seat which is secured such as by welding to the inner surface of the steel stack in which the valve is mounted.
