A method and device: pass a probe beam to the retina of an eye through a refractive region of a combined diffractive-re-fractive intraocular lens (IOL) which is implanted into the eye; provide light returned from the retina to a wavefront sensor which includes a detector array and images the returned light onto the detector array to produce a first set of light spots which returned from the retina through the refractive region of the combined diffractive-refractive IOL and a second set of light spots which returned from the retina through a diffractive region of the combined diffractive-refractive IOL; select a first region of the detector array which includes at least some of the first set of light spots and excludes the second set of light spots; and determines a refraction of the eye with the combined diffractive-refractive IOL implanted therein using only data from the first set of light spots.

Method and system for making optical measurement of eye

An apparatus and method: project a plurality of light spots onto a cornea of an eye having a tear film disposed thereon, wherein the light spots are broadband light spots or are narrowband light spots whose bandwidth is tuned in time across a broad bandwidth; image the light spots from the cornea onto at least one two-dimensional detector array; spectrally resolve each of the plurality of imaged light spots; perform interferometry on the spectrally resolved imaged light spots to identify an anterior interface and a posterior interface of the tear film of the eye; and determine a thickness of the tear film as a distance between the anterior interface and the posterior interface.

A measurement instrument and method: produce light having a linear shape; direct the light toward an eye via a first lens located one focal length from the light source; provide returned light, having the linear shape, from the eye to a split-prism; split the returned light into first and second linear segments; image the first and second linear segments onto an image sensor; determine a first lateral offset between the first and second linear segments on the image sensor at a first time; determine a second lateral offset between the first and second linear segments on the image sensor at a second time; determine a difference between the first and second lateral offsets; and determine a distance that the eye moved relative to the first lens between the first time and the second time based on the difference between the first and second lateral offsets.

Methods and systems for determining change in eye position between successive eye measurements

A system includes: at least one processor; a movable stage, wherein the movable stage is movable under control of the at least one processor with respect to an eye of a subject; a video display device configured to move with the movable stage; and an optical system disposed in an optical path between the video display device and the eye. The video display device is configured to play a movie of a fixation target to the eye to cause the eye to accommodate, and the movie dynamically changes an appearance of the fixation target on the video display device to compensate for Bokeh of the fixation target as the movable stage moves the video display device from a first position, where the fixation target draws a focus of the eye to near its far point, to a second position further away from the eye than the first position.

An optical measurement instrument includes optical coherence tomography (OCT) interferometer and a pupil retro illumination system which directs laser light onto the retina of an eye via the sample arm of the OCT interferometer. The laser light passes through an intraocular lens (IOL) implanted into the eye, and an iris camera captures an image of the eye from a portion of the light returned from the retina of the eye, the returned light also passing through the IOL. One or more fiducials of the IOL are detected from the captured image, and an angular orientation of the eye is ascertained from the one or more detected fiducials.

An instrument includes: one or more scanning mirrors to receive an OCT sample beam and to scan the sample beam in two orthogonal directions; and an optical system to receive the sample beam and provide the sample beam to an eye. The optical system includes: a first lens having a first focal length, disposed along an optical path from the scanning mirror(s) to the eye at a distance from the cornea which is approximately equal to the first focal length, and a second lens disposed along the optical path between the first lens and the scanning mirror(s). An optical measurement system and apparatus for carrying out cataract diagnostics in an eye of a patient includes a Corneal Topography Subsystem, a wavefront aberrometer subsystem, and an eye structure imaging subsystem, wherein the subsystems have a shared optical axis, and each subsystem is operatively coupled to the others via a controller. The eye structure imaging subsystem is preferably a fourierdomain optical coherence tomographer, and more preferably, a swept source OCT.

Methods and systems of optical coherence tomography with fiducial signal for correcting scanning laser nonlinearity

An optical measurement system and method measure a characteristic of a subject's eye. The optical measurement system receives from an operator, via a user interface of the optical measurement instrument, a begin measurement instruction indicating the start of a measurement period for objectively measuring at least one characteristic of the subject's eye. Subsequent to receiving the begin measurement instruction, the optical measurement system determines whether a criterion associated with the tear film quality of the subject's eye is not satisfied. In response to determining that the criterion is not satisfied, the optical measurement instrument takes one or more corrective actions to measure the characteristic of the subject's eye under a condition wherein the criterion is satisfied.
