An implantable therapy generator that includes sensing circuitry that senses cardiac signals representative of atrial activity and ventricular activity; detection circuitry connected to the sensing circuitry; control circuitry that controls generation and selective delivery of a multi-stage atrial cardioversion therapy to implanted electrodes, each stage of the therapy including multiple pulses, each pulse including multiple high-frequency sub-pulses; and therapy circuitry. The therapy circuitry includes a high-voltage charging circuit charging a storage capacitor to a predetermined voltage; a delivery capacitor connectable to the storage capacitor; and a control circuit adapted to selectively cause the storage capacitor to be electrically connected to the delivery capacitor so as to charge the delivery capacitor to a predetermined delivery voltage, and to cause a delivery switching circuit to be repeatedly opened and closed at a predetermined rate, thereby causing the sub-pulses to be transmitted to the electrodes.

Low-energy atrial cardioversion therapy with controllable pulse-shaped waveforms

A method for discriminating electromagnetic interference from a received signal in an implantable medical device includes identifying a frequency component in the input signal that corresponds to electromagnetic interference. The method further includes passing the physiologic frequency component through a bandpass filter, passing the electromagnetic frequency component through a high pass filter in parallel with the bandpass filter, detecting the electromagnetic frequency component from the high pass filter and using the detected EMI to mitigate one or more effects of the electromagnetic frequency component from the physiologic parameter signal passed by the bandpass filter. An implantable device for detecting a predetermined physiologic event includes an electromagnetic interference (EMI) detection module operable to receive a signal characteristic of a physiologic phenomenon, the received signal comprising a plurality of frequency components, the EMI detection module further operable to output a signal identifying frequency components associated with EMI that is included in the received signal; and a mitigation module operable to use the signal output from the EMI detection module to mitigate one or more effects of the frequency components associated with EMI from the received signal.

System and method for discriminating high frequency electromagnetic interference from cardiac events

A power management system for an implantable device is disclosed. One application is an implantable cardioverter/defibrillator. Charging circuits for implantable cardioverter/defibrillators require relatively large currents from the power supply. The present power management system provides extended device operation and reduced charge cycle time. The present system monitors both current and voltage drawn from the power supply to prevent a loss of system voltage. Elective replacement indication is performed using charging information provided by the present power management system.
