An example adapter assembly may comprise an adapter cage to removably mount to a riser board of a computer system. Further, the example adapter assembly may comprise an adapter board disposed on the adapter cage, wherein the adapter cage is to receive multiple computer components, and the adapter board is to engage with the multiple computer components.

Techniques for indicators for storage cells are provided. In one aspect, an indicator is provided that indicates if a portion of storage cells of a storage device contains a pre-defined value. In another aspect, a range of storage cells are initialized to a known value. An indicator may be set to indicate the range of storage cells has been initialized to the known value. In yet another aspect, a request for the indicator may be sent to a storage device. Based on the indicator, initialization of the storage device may be bypassed.

A system and method is disclosed for placing an electronic apparatus into a protected state in response to environmental data. The method discloses: receiving a set of environmental data applicable to an electronic apparatus; generating an environmental status applicable to the electronic apparatus based-on the environmental data; and placing the electronic apparatus into a protected state based-on the environmental status. The system discloses an environment characterization module which receives a set of environmental data applicable to an electronic apparatus, and generates an environmental status applicable to the electronic apparatus based-on the environmental data; and an apparatus protection module which places the electronic apparatus into a protected state based-on the environmental status.

System and method for placing an electronic apparatus into a protected state in response to environmental data

A disk drive system including one or more platters, each platter supporting at least one recording surface, where the platters are aligned about a common central axis. The platters spin about the common central axis. A recording head is associated with each recording surface. An actuator mechanism couples to each recording head to move the recording head into proximity with selected portions of the recording surface in response to received commands. At least two replicates of data are stored in at least two data storage areas such that any one of the at least two replicates can be accessed to service a data access request.
