Systems, apparatuses and methods are provided for identifying the position of a catheter relative to internal tissue and controlling injection of a therapeutic substance(s) into the internal tissue. In one embodiment, a catheter includes one or more position sensing electrodes disposed at or near a distal end of the catheter that allow identifying the position of the catheter relative to the internal tissue. The catheter also includes one or more contact sensors that provide an indication of contact and/or contact forces between the catheter and internal tissue before and after a therapy delivery needle is extended from the catheter into the internal tissue. Outputs of the contact sensor(s) allows for confirming insertion of the therapy delivery needle into the internal tissue to a desired depth. Once inserted to the desired depth, a therapeutic substance may be injected into the internal tissue at the desired depth.

Methods and devices incorporating a guidewire entry port subassembly for use in rapid exchange catheters. The use of a subassembly allows for stronger quality control and simpler fabrication of a rapid exchange device. In several embodiments, methods of making a molded guidewire entry port using a mold, often in conjunction with one or more mandrels, are disclosed. Several device embodiments include a separate molded guidewire port as well as molded guidewire ports which are attached, during a molding step, to segments of a catheter.

A transcatheter method of gathering tissue of a heart valve leaflet may include inserting an elongated catheter assembly to a position adjacent the heart valve leaflet, the catheter assembly including a capture tool moveable between a retracted position and an extended position, a tissue support, and a clamping member moveable between an open position and a closed position. The capture tool may be partially retracted to gather tissue of the heart valve leaflet between the tissue support and the clamping member. The clamping member may then be moved from the open position toward the closed position so as to clamp a substantial portion of the gathered tissue of the heart valve leaflet between the tissue support and the clamping member. Subsequently, a clip may be applied from the catheter assembly to the clamped tissue so as to hold the clamped tissue substantially in a gathered configuration.

Apparatus and method for heart valve repair

A device for transcatheter gathering of tissue of a heart valve leaflet may include an elongated tube, a capture tool moveable in the tube between a retracted position and an extended position, a tissue support located within a distal portion of the tube, and a clamping member pivotable in the tube between an open position spaced from the tissue support and a closed position adjacent the tissue support. The clamping member may have a flattened clamping portion and a C-shaped portion that defines a pocket therein. An open side of the C-shaped portion may face the tissue support. The capture tool and the clamping member may be operable to gather and clamp tissue between the tissue support and the clamping member, such that the clamped tissue has a gathered configuration. The device may also include a releasable clip adapted to hold the clamped tissue in the gathered configuration.

A catheter system comprises a catheter, an inner shaft, an expandable balloon, and an elongate advancement member. The expandable balloon has an unwrapped state and rewrapped state and the advancement member has a first state and a second state. When the advancement member is in the first state the expandable balloon is in the unwrapped state, and when the advancement member is in the second state the expandable balloon is in the rewrapped state. The unwrapped state has a first length and a first diameter, the rewrapped state has a second length and a second diameter, the second length is equal to or greater than the first length, and the second diameter is less than first diameter. The advancement member in the second state extends through the interior region defined by the expandable balloon.

Cardioprotective pacing is applied to prevent and/or reduce cardiac injury associated with myocardial infarction (MI) and revascularization procedure. Pacing pulses are generated from a pacemaker and delivered through one or more pacing electrodes incorporated onto one or more percutaneous transluminal vascular intervention (PTVI) devices during the revascularization procedure. In one embodiment, at least one pacing electrode is constructed as, or incorporated onto, a stent at a distal end portion of a stent catheter.

Cardioprotective pacing is applied to prevent and/or reduce cardiac injury associated with myocardial infarction (MI) and revascularization procedure. Pacing pulses are generated from a pacemaker and delivered through a plurality of pacing leads introduced into a patient's body through a percutaneous transluminal vascular intervention (PTVI) catheter have a plurality of exit ports. In one embodiment, the exit ports are arranged for the pacing leads to enter multiple specified blood vessels.

A catheter system comprises a catheter comprising a distal portion, a proximal portion and an inner shaft. The inner shaft comprises a medical device receiving region for receiving and carrying a medical device. The retaining device is at least partially constructed of an electroactive polymer. The retaining device is located on or adjacent to the medical device receiving region. The electroactive polymer of the retaining device has an activated state and an inactivated state. The retaining device is capable of retaining a medical device to the catheter and releasing the medical device from the catheter by transitioning between the activated state and the inactivated state.

A catheter tip has an outer surface section, an inner surface section, a spatial configuration and at least one segment of electroactive polymer. The inner surface section defines a guide wire lumen. The electroactive polymer has an actuated state and a non-actuated state. In an actuated state, the electroactive polymer alters the spatial configuration of the catheter tip.

The present invention is directed to distal tip designs for catheter, wherein distal tip material is positioned about an inner shaft. The distal tip material may also be used as a tie layer for thermally bonding two incompatible materials together, such as a waist portion of a balloon to the inner shaft.

The invention provides design, material, manufacturing method, and use alternatives for medical devices. An example medical device includes a first elongated member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween and a second elongated member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween. The proximal end of the second elongated member may be disposed adjacent to the distal end of the first elongated member forming an actuatable junction. In some cases, the actuatable junction may be actuatable between a first state and a second state. When in the first state, the first elongated member may be rotatable relative to the second elongated member and, when in the second state, the first elongated member may be fluidly sealed to the second elongated member.
