A tube fitting for connection with a tube includes first and second flanges members and a ferrule between the first and second flanged members. The ferrule engages the tube to form a tube grip and seal when the first and second flanged members are drawn together. A tapered clamp may be used to draw the flanged members together.

A coupling assembly entirely formed from plastics material is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting first and second fluid lines. A male coupling member includes an external groove that receives a radially inward extending shoulder of the sleeve. An external groove on a female coupling member is selectively engaged by latching tabs extending radially inward from the sleeve. The latching tabs are selectively pivoted radially outward through depression of release buttons. The pivoting action of the latching members is defined along a central portion in which circumferential strips undergo a twisting action.

Quick-connect coupling for a bulkhead

A coupling comprises a hollow body with a valve supported therein to define an annular chamber for receiving a mating stem component. A slide sleeve is mounted for axial movement in the annular chamber to control flow past the valve. Carried on the slide sleeve is a wiper mounted for sliding movement and having an end face which generally fills the open end of the annular chamber. A pair of slide hooks act to engage the stem member and move the slide member to a closed position when the coupling is disconnected. The slide hooks extend through slots in the wiper and are held in engaged position in the slide sleeve by cooperating surfaces on the hooks and the wiper. A pair of opposed dog-type detent members are maintained in a radially outward position by the outer surface of the wiper when the coupling is disconnected. In addition, the body and a cooperating operating sleeve are provided with a generally elliptical cross-section which results in a stronger coupling design and facilitates guiding of the components.

An improved bulkhead mounting arrangement for a fluid coupling. The coupling body includes a centrally located externally threaded region having a predetermined axial length. First and second panel nut members are received on the threaded region for independent, selective axial movement thereon. One nut is received on either side of the bulkhead or panel so that axial adjustability of the mounting position is advantageously provided.

A protective device for a quick connect coupling having selectively connectable male and female coupling bodies. The device includes a generally cylindrical sleeve extending axially beyond and radially outward of an end face of one of the male and female coupling bodies. The sleeve has a generally radially outward tapering conformation to add desired rigidity and bulk thereto. The protective device is designed to extend axially outward beyond either the female receiving member or the male stem portion in both a first outermost biased position and a second innermost position.

A quick connect/disconnect coupling for carrying fluid under pressure includes a latch mechanism requiring two independent movements in two different directions for releasing same. The coupling includes improved seals at various locations along with a slide bearing, and improved support fins for internal valves. The coupling is keyed in a plurality of different mating pairs of body and stem assemblies so that the stem assemblies having different keys cannot be mated together.

A quick connect/disconnect coupling for carrying fluid under pressure includes cooperating body and stem coupling assemblies. The body coupling assembly includes an axially movable slide having a closed position engaging a body valve when the two coupling assemblies are disconnected, and having an open position spaced from the body valve when the two coupling assemblies are connected. Latch fingers attached to the slide cooperate with the stem coupling assembly for pulling the slide toward its closed position when the two coupling assemblies are disconnected. The body valve cooperable with the slide is mounted on one end portion of an elongated member having its opposite end portion threaded into a finned support member retained within the body between a shoulder and a snap ring. A poppet valve in the stem assembly has a hollow metal stamping forming a guide shaft received in a guide hole in an axially elongated guide sleeve on a finned guide member. A longitudinally movable sleeve cooperable with latch members has a button biased to a blocking position by a leaf type of spring for cooperation with an abutment to prevent movement of the sleeve, and the button is depressible to a clearance position for allowing movement of the sleeve.

A poppet type valve assembly comprising a body having an axial bore extending therethrough and defining a fluid flow passage and an internal, generally cylindrical valve chamber. Seat means are carried in the bore adjacent a first end of the valve chamber to define a valve seat coaxial with the bore. A poppet valve member is mounted in the chamber for movement axially thereof toward and away from the seat. Extending axially of the chamber is a coil spring for maintaining the poppet valve member under a continual bias toward the seat. Valve stop means are provided for limiting movement of the poppet valve member in a direction away from the valve seat. The valve stop means including a central body portion having a plurality of legs which extend radially between a shoulder and the coil spring. A central body portion of the stop extends axially into the coil spring toward the poppet valve member a distance such that movement of the poppet valve away from the seat is stopped before the coil spring is fully compressed.

Poppet valve

A poppet check valve comprising mating body forming sections which define a valve chamber having a cylindrical inner wall. A generally cylindrical inlet passage connects axially with the valve chamber and a shoulder at the juncture between the inlet passage and the chamber defines an annular valve seat. Positioned in the chamber and extending transversely thereof is a relatively thin disk-like valve element. The valve element has a generally circular imperforate central section of a diameter greater than the diameter of the inlet passage but less than the diameter of the valve chamber. A plurality of legs extend radially from the periphery of the central section into sliding engagement with the inner wall of the valve chamber. A circular seal element is joined to one side of the central section at a location inwardly of its outer periphery to extend axially toward the valve seat. The valve element is maintained under a bias toward the seat by a coil spring mounted in the valve chamber. Positioned between the spring and the valve element is a stop member including a plurality of radially spaced, axially extending force applying elements for engaging the central section of the valve element on the side opposite the seal element. The stop also includes guide surfaces extending radially outwardly of the force applying elements into sliding engagement with the wall of the valve chamber at a location axially spaced from the valve element.

Check valve

An improved quick connect tube coupling which allows one design for the male coupling portion to be used in either single or double end shut-off applications. A new opening means for the valve located in the female coupling portion is provided for single end shut-off applications and a new valving arrangement located in the male coupling portion is provided for double end shut-off applications. An improved valve seat construction disposed in the female coupling portion is also advantageously provided.
