A method of separating a fluid includes adding a fluid to a canister of a fluid separator. The canister includes first and second barriers disposed concentrically within the canister that define a first and second annulus within the canister, and a canister rotor having a first magnet associated therewith. The method includes rotating an induction base rotor disposed within an induction base. The induction base rotor includes a second magnet. The canister rotor and the induction base rotor are magnetically coupled and rotating the induction base rotor causes the canister rotor to rotate. The method further includes forming a vortex in the fluid via the rotation of the canister rotor, and the vortex causes the fluid to separate into a first component and a second component.

A device comprising a trocar having a first end and comprising a cannulation and at least one fenestration proximal the first end; and a housing comprising a first port configured for the attachment of a first syringe and a second port configured for the attachment of a collection vessel, a first valve configured to selectively permit fluid flow through the cannulation of the trocar to the first port, and a second valve configured to selectively permit fluid flow through the cannulation of the trocar to the second port. The device allows the first syringe to draw up bone marrow in small volumes with high vacuum and then transfer the small draws into the collection vessel. The device may increase the recovery of desired cells residing in the bone marrow to be recovered during a bone marrow aspiration procedure.

Combined trocar and cannula bone marrow aspiration device with integral valve and ports for aspiration, and methods for using same

A combination wound drain and substance-delivery device includes a drain portion and a substance delivery portion. The drain portion and the substance-delivery portion include interior cavities that are separated from one another to prevent fluids and/or materials disposed within the interior cavities from mixing together. Each of the interior cavities includes one or more perforations that allow fluid communication between a wound site and each of the interior cavities. The device further includes a tip coupled to the drain portion that facilitates removal of collected waste from the drain portion. The device may include an attachment mechanism that helps secure the device when placed within a wound site.

Combination wound drain and substance-delivery system and method

A device for selectively filtering a substance suctioned from a surgical site includes a valve that may be positioned in a bypass mode and a filtration mode. The valve is placed within a body that includes an inlet and an outlet. In the bypass mode, a first inlet of the valve is adapted to be aligned with the body inlet. The first inlet guides the substance through a bypass passageway to the body outlet. In the bypass mode, a bowl and a filter of the body are sectioned off from a flow path of the filtration device such that the bowl and the filter can be removed without interrupting an application of suction to a surgical site by the filtration device. In a filtration mode, a second inlet of the valve is adapted to be aligned with the body inlet to direct the substance into the filter.

The second piece is configured to engage the first piece to slide over inner surfaces of the first piece become seated and mated in the first piece. A secondary function of the retention component is to address fixation of fasteners when the surgeon is confronted with a challenging access to adequate boney structures due to excessive curvature/angulation of the vertebrae column, minimal invasive surgery techniques, danger to surrounding vascular or neurological tissues, poor bone quality, or similar surgical complications. A tertiary function of the retention component is to provide better alignment and stabilization of misaligned vertebrae when spondylolisthesis is a significant factor. One or more fasteners secure the retention component to each of the vertebrae above and below the load bearing device. The fasteners cause the end plates of the vertebrae to compress the end plates to the load bearing device to facilitate proper fusion.
