A patient trolley configured for transporting a patient to a target modality includes a top portion having a top surface and an overhang area along at least one side of the top portion, a bottom portion supporting the top portion, and a side rail coupled to the top portion for movement between a deployed position and a stowed position. The patient trolley is configured to dock adjacent the target modality such that the overhang area is capable of extending over at least a portion of the target modality. The patient trolley may be combined with a patient transfer device to facilitate transfer of a patient from the top surface of the patient trolley to the patient support surface of the target modality. Methods of docking the patient trolley adjacent a target modality and transferring a patient from the patient trolley to the target modality are also provided.

A patient transfer device includes a patient support surface having a top surface adapted for positioning a patient thereon and a bottom surface defining one or more areas having a concave curvature for passage of air flow therethrough. Passage of the air flow along the one or more areas having a concave curvature provides an air bearing below at least a portion of the bottom surface. Exemplary patient transfer systems and methods of moving a patient are also provided.

Patient transfer device and associated systems and methods

A patient transfer system is provided to move a patient between modalities. The system includes a deploying modality having a top surface configured to support the patient; a patient transfer support positionable on the top surface of the deploying modality, the patient transfer support also being configured for movement from the top surface of the deploying modality to a top surface of the receiving modality; a patient transfer support locating feature positionable to limit movement of the patient transfer support relative to the top surface of the receiving modality; and a keying feature positionable to engage at least one of a surface associated with the receiving modality or a surface of the patient transfer support, the keying feature being configured to inhibit movement of the patient transfer support in at least one direction relative to the top surface of the receiving modality. The patient transfer support locating feature limits the range of movement of the patient transfer support relative to the top surface of the receiving modality when the patient transfer support is moved from the top surface of the deploying modality to the top surface of the receiving modality.

The present invention provides a low friction device for transferring patients from one surface to another. This system allows a patient to be immobilized on one supporting surface. The immobilized patient can then be transferred laterally onto the target modality using an air bearing that is thin, homogeneously radiolucent and compatible with a variety of diagnostic imaging and treatment modalities.

Advantageous patient transport systems, and related methods of use, are provided. More particularly, the present disclosure provides advantageous modular patient transport systems that are configured to transport patients from one surface to another for various applications (e.g., diagnostic imaging and/or radiation therapy applications). The patient transport systems/assemblies of the present disclosure are configured and dimensioned to be utilized with a wide variety of imaging and/or treatment modalities/environments. The target modality assemblies/surfaces that the patient may be transported to and/or from via the improved patient transport systems/assemblies of the present disclosure include many different types of equipment/surfaces. In certain embodiments, when the transfer assembly is moved to the target modality assembly, a safety member of the transfer assembly engages with a safety member catch of the target modality assembly to allow a user to safely, accurately and repeatably releasably mount the transfer assembly to the target modality assembly.
