A deflector is disclosed for deflecting air flow in a rotating electrical machine comprising a stator (), stator windings () and a housing (). The deflector comprises a sheet of material folded to form a deflecting portion () and a connecting portion (). The deflecting portion () is arranged to deflect airflow from a gap () between the stator and the housing towards the stator windings (). The connecting portion comprises one or more apertures () adjacent to the deflecting portion. The aperture helps to reduce or avoid the Coand{hacek over (a)} effect, and thereby improve the impingement of cooling air on the stator end windings.

A baffleis disclosed for directing cooling air in a rotating electrical machine comprising a stator core and end windings. The baffle comprises a first surfacearranged to direct air flow along an end face of the stator core, and a second surfacearranged to direct air flow along a radially outwards surface of the end windings. This may help to reduce turbulence in the airflow, thereby allowing more efficient transfer of heat. Furthermore, greater priority may be given to air flow through the rotor/stator air gap, and thus increasing air flow through the centre of the machine.
