A liquid fuel composition for a spark ignition internal combustion engine comprising (a) gasoline blending components, (b) Fischer-Tropsch derived naphtha at a level of up to 50% v/v and (c) oxygenated hydrocarbon at a level less than 50% v/v. While the low octane number of Fischer-Tropsch derived naphtha would normally severely restrict its blendability in gasoline to low levels, it has now been found that Fischer-Tropsch derived naphtha can be included in, for example, ethanol-containing gasoline fuel compositions, in surprisingly and significantly high blend ratios of Fischer-Tropsch derived naphtha to ethanol.

Use of a paraffinic gasoil in a diesel fuel composition for reducing the build up of deposits in an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system of a compression ignition internal combustion engine.

Use of a paraffinic gasoil

Gasoline fuel composition suitable for use in an internal combustion engine comprising: (a) Fischer-Tropsch derived naphtha at a level from 2 to 20% v/v; (b) at least one aromatic octane booster present at a level of 0.75 to 8% v/v or less; and (c) a gasoline base fuel; wherein the gasoline fuel composition comprises 40% v/v or less of aromatics. In a preferred embodiment, the Research Octane Number (RON) of the gasoline fuel composition is increased while maintaining the aromatic content of the gasoline fuel composition at a level of 40% v/v or less, based on the gasoline fuel composition.

Fuel compositions

Diesel fuel composition suitable for use in an internal combustion engine comprising: (a) 2 mass % to 30 mass % of kerosene having a kinematic viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. of 1.5 mm/s or less and a density of 810 kg/mor less; (b) 2 mass % to 20 mass % of Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil having a kinematic viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. of 7.5 mm/s or greater and a density of 790 kg/mor greater; and (c) diesel base fuel. The diesel fuel composition of the present invention provides improved cold flow properties while simultaneously maintaining other properties such as viscosity and density within diesel fuel specification requirements.

Liquid fuel compositions

In a fuel composition containing a static dissipator additive, a Fischer-Tropsch derived fuel component is blended for the purpose of increasing the electrical conductivity of the composition and/or for reducing the concentration of the static dissipator additive in the composition. The fuel composition is preferably an automotive diesel fuel composition.

Method of formulating a fuel composition

Use in a gas oil fuel composition, which preferably comprises a Fischer-Tropsch derived fuel, of a compound according to formula (I): wherein: Rto Rare each independently hydrogen or a Calkyl group, where such alkyl groups may be the same as or different from one another; X is a nitrogen- or oxygen-containing group, for the purpose of reducing the cetane number of said fuel composition; preparation of such a fuel composition; and operating a fuel consuming system. 

A method for increasing the cetane number of a fuel composition containing a Fischer-Tropsch derived fuel component, in order to reach a target cetane number X, is provided by adding to the composition a concentration c of an ignition improver, wherein c is lower than the concentration which theory would predict needed to be added in order to achieve the target. The ignition improver is preferably 2-ethylhexyl nitrate and the fuel composition suitably a diesel or kerosene fuel. A fuel composition for use in a compression ignition engine, which has a cetane number of 85 or greater, and contains a Fischer-Tropsch derived fuel component and an ignition improver is also disclosed.

Method for synergistically increasing the cetane number of a fuel composition and a fuel composition comprising a synergistically increased cetane number

A diesel fuel based on a blend of a diesel fuel derived from a Fischer-Tropsch process, and a mineral oil based diesel fuel having a sulfur content of less than 100 ppmw; and a method of operating a diesel engine, which method involves combusting such diesel fuel in the diesel engine.

Diesel fuel and a method of operating a diesel engine

A process to prepare an aviation fuel and an automotive gas oil from a source of mineral derived gas oil is provided. From the mineral derived gas oil a low boiling fraction is isolated for use as an aviation fuel or as an aviation fuel component and the remaining part of the mineral derived gas oil is blended with a Fischer-Tropsch derived kerosene fraction and/or a Fischer-Tropsch derived gas oil fraction to obtain a blend suited for use as at least part of an automotive gas oil.

Process to prepare an aviation fuel

A fuel composition exhibiting a reduced acceleration time, the fuel composition comprising a blend comprising a non-Fischer-Tropsch derived diesel base fuel and from about 0.2 v/v % to 3 v/v % Fischer-Tropsch derived kerosene fuel product, the blend exhibiting a reduced acceleration time that is at least 0.20% less than a theoretical acceleration time.

A composition having a density at 15&#xb0; C. of between 820 and 845 kg/mand a cetane number of equal or greater than 40, which composition has been obtained by blending the following components: (a) a cracked gas oil, (b) a mineral derived gas oil other than (a), and (c) a Fischer-Tropsch derived kerosene fraction; and the use of this composition as an automotive gas oil fuel composition.

Process to blend a mineral derived hydrocarbon product and a Fischer-Tropsch derived hydrocarbon product by providing in a storage vessel of a marine vessel a quantity of mineral derived hydrocarbon product and Fischer-Tropsch derived hydrocarbon product such that initially the mineral derived hydrocarbon product is located substantially above the Fischer-Tropsch derived hydrocarbon product, transporting the combined products in the marine vessel from one location to another location, also referred to as the destination, and obtaining a blended product at arrival of the marine vessel at its destination.

Process to blend a mineral and a Fischer-Tropsch derived product onboard a marine vessel

A process to prepare a catalytically dewaxed gas oil or gas oil blending component by performing the following steps: (a) hydrocracking/hydroisomerizing a Fischer-Tropsch product; (b) separating the product of step (a) into at least one or more fuel fractions and a gas oil precursor fraction; (c) catalytically dewaxing the gas oil precursor fraction obtained in step (b); and, (d) isolating the catalytically dewaxed gas oil or gas oil blending component from the product of step (c) by means of distillation.
