A method and a device for the dynamic monitoring of an air charging system of an internal combustion engine, subsystems of the air charging system having a low-pass characteristic, and a characteristic state quantity that is to be measured being compared with a modeled, identical state quantity. The measured signal and the modeled signal are filtered using a high-pass filter or bandpass filter, and, given a change in the characteristic state quantity that is to be measured, higher-frequency signal portions are evaluated, which is advantageous with regard to the recognition of so-called slow response errors.

Method and device for dynamic monitoring of an air charging system of an internal combustion engine

A method and a computer program for recognizing and differentiating a flow rate error and a dynamic error of an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) of an internal combustion engine. Measured and modeled EGR mass flow signals are each subjected to bandpass filtering using time constants optimized for determining flow rate errors and bandpass filtering using time constants optimized for determining dynamic errors. The energy is determined for each of the filtered signals and an energy quotient is computed between the energies of the signals filtered for dynamic errors and the signals filtered for flow rate errors. A dynamic error and a flow rate error of the exhaust gas recirculation may be recognized and differentiated from one another on the basis of the energy quotients.

A method and a device for determining the oxygen storage capacity of an emission control system in an exhaust duct of an internal combustion engine. In a first phase, the internal combustion engine being operated using an air-fuel mixture having a rich air-to-fuel ratio, and in a second phase, the engine being operated at a lean air-to-fuel ratio; and an oxygen storage capacity of the emission control system being determined from an oxygen input into the emission control system during the second phase; and/or in order to determine a hydrocarbon gas storage capacity, the internal combustion engine being operated during the first phase at a lean air-to-fuel ratio, and operated in the second phase at a rich air-to-fuel ratio; and the hydrocarbon gas storage capacity being determined from the oxygen discharge from the emission control system during the second phase.

Method and device for determining the oxygen storage capacity of an emission control system

A method for diagnosing an electrical lead to an electrode of a sensor element, for sensing at least one property of a measured gas in a measured gas space, in particular for sensing a proportion of a gas component in the measured gas or a temperature of the measured gas, is described. A measured signal indicating an internal resistance of a pump cell of the sensor element is investigated for regularity upon switching on of the control unit. Upon identification of at least one irregularity of the measured signal, a suspected fault in the lead is identified and at least one substitute action is taken. The substitute action is selected from: an application of control to the heating element which is provided for a fault situation, a check of the validity of the measured signal, and a monitoring of the heating element. A sensor apparatus is also described.

Method for diagnosing an electrical lead to an electrode of a sensor element for sensing at least one property of a measured gas in a measured gas space

The invention relates to a method and device for diagnosing deviations in a single cylinder lambda control in an internal combustion engine having at least two cylinders and an exhaust gas sensor designed as a broadband lambda sensor, wherein a pump current is evaluated by means of a pump cell and the pump current is used at least temporarily for an individual cylinder lambda control. According to the invention, a pump voltage or a pump voltage change is determined via the pump cell in addition to the pump current and the value is transmitted to a diagnosis apparatus. Deviations in the single cylinder lambda control can thus be better diagnosed without additional material expense according to the invention, which provides advantages in particular in respect of tightened rulemaking in on-board diagnosis. A preferred application of the method is the use in internal combustion engines having multi-bank exhaust systems.

A method for adapting a lambda control of an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas probe disposed in an exhaust gas duct of the internal combustion engine as part of an exhaust gas monitoring system, wherein the adaptation is carried out on the basis of a comparison between a modeled and a measured signal after a predetermined change in the fuel-air ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to said internal combustion engine has taken place and wherein the measured signal is an actual value of an output signal of the exhaust gas probe and the modeled signal is a modal value, which is derived from the air-fuel mixture supplied to said internal combustion engine through the use of an exhaust gas model.

Method and device for adapting a lambda control

A method/device for evaluating oxygen sensor signals of an air supply channel connected to an exhaust gas channel of the internal combustion engine, via an exhaust gas recirculation having at least one exhaust gas recirculation valve; the oxygen sensor being downstream from the exhaust gas recirculation initiation; the sensor signal(s) being corrected as a function of at least one characteristics variable describing the dependence of the sensor signal on the oxygen concentration or a correlated variable, and/or additional physical variables. At at least one engine operating point(s), in response to a closed exhaust gas recirculation valve, output oxygen sensor signals and additional operating point parameters are recorded/stored; and an adaptation of the characteristic variables is derived assuming that the gas composition corresponds to pure air. Also, a characteristics curve adjustment and a compensation of pressure temperature dependencies may be performed to improve the accuracy of the oxygen sensor signals.
