A computer system communicates with sponsors, mobile wireless devices, and wireless service providers to provide the sponsors with access to wireless device users for accepting offers to interact with sponsor content. The system is configured with programmed instructions that when executed by a processor downloads an application program to the mobile wireless devices, the application program being configured to receive incentive offers identifying conditions for receiving credits from one or more of the sponsors, and receive messages from sponsors that transfer money to an account associated with an operator of the computer system so that the sponsors have access to and contact with the wireless devices. The messages that transfer money to the account associated with the operator of the computer system are generated after the application program has been used to accept and perform the conditions identified by at least one incentive offer received by the application program.

System and method for incentivizing wireless device users to interact with sponsor offers and advertising

A computer system communicates with sponsors, mobile wireless devices, and wireless service providers to present incentives to wireless device users for accepting offers to interact with sponsor content. The incentive offers provide mobile wireless device accounts with credits that are paid by the sponsors. The system generates ACH messages to obtain payment for the credits and transfers the money to the wireless service providers for partial payment of wireless service charges.

These devices include magnetic stripe readers, check readers, smart card readers, credit card terminals, screen phone terminals, PIN pads, printers, and the like. An open network system for supporting input/output (I/O) operations for non-standard I/O devices are disclosed. The system includes a server coupled to a plurality of I/O device through an open network and an extended open system protocol that supports communication with devices that are not personal computers (PCs). These devices include magnetic stripe readers, check readers, smart card readers, credit card terminals, screen phone terminals, PIN pads, printers, and the like. The extended open network protocol includes tags which identify device and input operations and attributes which identify the location, data exchange method, and data variable names for the retrieval, acquisition, and submission of data between the server and I/O devices. Preferably, the open network protocol is implemented in a Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP). Preferably, the system includes a common gateway interface (CGI) at the server which converts protocol statements communicated between the server and I/O devices to application language statements for providing data to an application program coupled to the server. Most preferably, the application statements and protocol statements are constructed in integrated statements with an editor. The editor ensures that data identifiers in the application and protocol statements are compatible. The integrated statements are then parsed by the editor to segregate the protocol statements from the application statements. The protocol statements are downloaded in a file to a client program at an I/O device for processing. The application statements are stored in a file for use by the application. In this manner, generation of the files for client and application processing are automatically done without the user ensuring the correlation of the data fields in the two files.

A method and apparatus for coupling multiple computer peripherals to a computer system through a single I/O port is disclosed. The inventive apparatus includes an interface device having a first connector for coupling to the I/O interface of a computer system, a second connector for coupling a first computer peripheral to the I/O port and a third connector for coupling a second computer peripheral to the I/O port so that both peripherals are simultaneously coupled to the I/O port. Within the housing of the preferred embodiment of the interface device, control and data lines for receiving data associated with the I/O interface are coupled from the first connector to the third connector and control and data lines for transmitting data associated with the I/O interface are coupled from the first connector to the second connector. By separating the transmit and data functions of the I/O interface so they may be routed to separate connectors, computer peripherals of difference types, i.e., input and output, may be simultaneously coupled to the computer terminal. The device of the present invention may also be used to separate data functions having different hardware specifications and protocols supported by an I/O interface.

Method and apparatus for coupling multiple computer peripherals to a computer system through a single I/O port

A system and method for detecting trigger events in datastreams received over a computer communication network is disclosed. The system includes an interceptor for intercepting datastreams from a computer network intended for an application program; a scanner for scanning the intercepted datastream for trigger events, such as cookie data, script commands, and applet programs; and an event response generator for processing detected trigger events. Configuration data is used to identify a response for trigger events such as disabling script commands or programs and deleting or modifying cookie data. The event indicators and an action menu are generated by the event response generator and delivered with the processed datastream to the application program. The application program displays the event indicators so the user is made aware of the trigger events and the action menu allows a user to respond to the detected trigger events. In the preferred implementation, the user may respond by obtaining information about the site which transmitted the datastream having the trigger events and then send e-mail to the administrator of the site. Other actions include modifying the configuration data so subsequent datastreams with the trigger event is passed by the system. Outbound messages from the application program are also intercepted and scanned for trigger events. In the preferred implementation, the configuration data are exchanged between the system and the application program so the user may modify the operation of the system. The configuration data are deleted from the outbound datastream before it is transmitted in the preferred implementation. The system and method of the present invention allow a user to view detected trigger events which otherwise would occur without the user's knowledge and provides the user with sufficient information so the user can make an informed decision as to whether to accept trigger events in a datastream from another site.
