An adjustable cargo tie down tensioning device for securing cargo in an aircraft and the like comprises, a spring loaded tie down chain restraint release and an adjustable connector having a surface engagement hook. The hook has an integrated threaded shaft with a spring urged retainment release for axle rotation once engaged assuring tie down device tensioning surface orientation for visual inspection of spring engaged chain restraint release required for load surface safety requirements.

An automotive power steering gear having a four-way, open-center valve defining inlet branch passages between an inlet port of the steering gear and opposite working chambers of a steering assist fluid motor and further defining discharge branch passages between the opposite fluid motor working chambers and a discharge port of the steering gear. Lands and grooves on a spool and a sleeve of the valve define variable orifices in the inlet and discharge branch passages. The steering gear further includes bypass passages around each of the variable orifices in the inlet branch passages and check valves in the bypass passages which open the passages only when the pressure in the corresponding one of the fluid motor working chambers exceeds the pressure at the inlet port. When one or the other of the check valves is open, fluid recirculates from one of the fluid motor working chambers to the other.

Sliding door hardware

A clutch assembly to interconnect rotatable drive and driven members. A cylindrical clutch element is operatively connected to one of the rotating members, and a sleeve-like clutch element is attached to at least one other of the rotatable members. The sleeve-like clutch element is disposed in spaced, concentric relation about the cylindrical clutch element. A first helical spring having opposed ends is disposed concentrically about, and frictionally engages, the exterior surface of the cylindrical clutch element. A second helical spring having opposed ends is disposed concentrically within, and frictionally engages, the interior surface of the sleeve-like clutch element. The opposed ends of each helical spring serves as an energizing or a trailing end, depending upon the drive or driven function of the clutch element engaged thereby. As such, the trailing end of the spring frictionally engaging that clutch element secured to the drive member is secured to the energizing end of the spring engaging that clutch element secured to the driven member. The hands of the first and second spring are individually selected to enhance the frictional engagement of the spring in response to rotation of the clutch elements in one direction, and conversely to decrease the frictional engagement in response to rotation in the other direction. At least one of the spring may be selected to effect overrunning of the rotating clutch elements in response to a rotational velocity in excess of a desired range of rotational velocities.

A diesel exhaust particulate trap is provided with a heat resistant particulate filter which includes a perforated and pleated metal substrate member coated with a ceramic fiber filter material on its interior surface so as to define a filter chamber for the inside-out flow of exhaust gases through the filter. In a preferred embodiment, an electrical particulate filter igniter is associated with the filter. The igniter includes a trap door pivotably secured to the substrate member, which is normally biased to a closed position by a spring but which can be opened by exhaust flow prior to an accumulation of particulates on the filter. Opening and closing of the trap door is used to effect deenergization and energization, respectively, of an electrical heating element used to initiate combustion of particulates.

An elongated particulate trap to fit the area usually occupied by the vertical cylindrical muffler, as on a large diesel truck, consists of rings of axial flow filter elements and a disc-like axial flow end filter element stacked in a trap housing, having an exhaust inlet and outlet at opposite ends, so as to provide a central flow passage for entry of exhaust gases via the exhaust inlet and so as to define with the trap housing and exhaust passage in flow communication with the exhaust outlet. The filter elements are stacked in spaced apart relationship to each other whereby to provide an axial gap therebetween to allow radial flow on one face of the filter elements. The axial gaps are sealed alternately on inner and outer radial ends to define outlet and inlet passages, respectively and to force axial flow through the filter elements whereby particulates will be removed from the exhaust gases.

A compression operated diesel fuel injector, for use with an internal combustion engine, is provided with a compression operated piston that is associated with a pump cylinder and plunger to effect pressurization of fuel for discharge from the injector, the piston also defining with the associate injector housing a fuel control chamber. A solenoid actuated valve is operatively positioned to normally block the return flow of fuel from the fuel control chamber to the fuel reservoir for the engine and, a variable flow orifice means is operatively positioned downstream of this valve to control the return fuel flow pressure as a function of engine speed and load to thus regulate the return flow of fuel from the control chamber so as to thereby control engine compression operation of the piston and, accordingly, to correspondingly regulate the rate of fuel injection from the fuel injector.

Compression operated injector with fuel injection control

A compression operated injector for delivering fuel directly to the combustion chamber of an engine has a piston which responds to the pressure in the combustion chamber and cooperates with a stepped plunger in the injector to pressurize fuel in both a control chamber and in an injector pump chamber. The discharge of fuel from the injection pump chamber for injection into the combustion chamber is controlled by a pressure operated valve. A solenoid actuated valve is used to control the escape of fuel from the control chamber so as to permit the piston to effect the necessary pressurization of the fuel in the injection pump chamber whereby to initiate the start of fuel injection.

Compression operated injector

In a compression operated injector, a solenoid valve is used to control the flow of pressurized fuel from a compression operated pump to the discharge nozzle of the injector so that the start and end of injection can be controlled by operation of the solenoid valve.
