An electrophotographic imaging member includes a substrate, an optional intermediate (undercoat) layer, a photogenerating layer, which can be a single layer of include separate charge generating and charge transport layers, and an optional overcoating layer, wherein the photogenerating layer or a sub-layer thereof include a carbon nanotube material.

Immersion coating system

An electrophotographic imaging member including a supporting substrate, an optional charge blocking layer, an optional adhesive layer, a charge generating layer, and a charge transporting element including two sequentially deposited charge transport layers each including a hole transport material and an optional film forming binder. A first charge transport layer exhibits a first charge carrier transit time and second charge transport layer exhibits a second charge carrier transit time. The two charge transport layers are formed in one of two ways. First, each layer can be formed from a different charge transport material so that the charge mobility of the charge transport material of the first charge transport layer is about 4 to about 20 times lower than the charge mobility of the charge transport material of the second charge transport layer. Or, alternatively, each charge transport layer can be made using a different amount of the same charge transport material. In this case, the first charge transport layer includes of an amount of charge transport material that is about 5% to about 30% less than an amount of charge transport material used to form the second charge transport layer. In either case, the resulting electrophotographic imaging member exhibits a discharge surface potential at a light exposure greater than about 3 erg/cm , at a post exposure delay between about 20 milliseconds and about 500 milliseconds that can be raised from about 20 to about 200 volts above a discharge potential of an imaging member having the same components as the imaging member of the present invention except having only a single charge transport layer with a thickness that is equivalent to the charge transporting element of the present invention.

Electrophotographic imaging member having two charge transport layers for limiting toner consumption

A process for immersion coating of a substrate including positioning a substrate having a top and bottom within a coating vessel having an inner surface to define a space between the inner surface and the substrate, filling at least a portion of the space with a coating mixture; stopping the filling slightly below the top of the substrate, initiating removal of the coating mixture at a gradually increasing rate to a predetermined maximum flow rate in a short predetermined distance, and continuing removal of the coating mixture at substantially the predetermined maximum flow rate to deposit a layer of the coating mixture on the substrate.

An electrophotographic imaging member including a substrate, a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer, the charge generating layer comprising photoconductive hydroxygallium phthalocyanine particles dispersed in a polymer matrix, the matrix comprising a polymeric film forming reaction product of at least vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and hydroxyalkyl acrylate.

Process for preparing an electrophotographic imaging member

There is disclosed a dip coating method for fabricating a photosensitive member comprising: (a) dipping a substrate into a coating solution comprised of a photosensitive material and raising the substrate, thereby depositing a coating of the photosensitive material on the substrate; and (b) dipping the substrate in the same coating solution and raising the substrate, thereby increasing the thickness of the coating.

Multiple dip coating method

A method is disclosed for coating a substrate having an end region including: (a) positioning the substrate within a coating vessel to define a space between the vessel and the substrate and providing a downwardly inclined surface contiguous to the outer surface at the end region of the substrate; (b) filling at least a portion of the space with a coating solution; and (c) withdrawing the coating solution from the space, thereby depositing a layer of the coating solution on the substrate.

Coating method using an inclined surface

An electrophotographic imaging member includes a charge generating layer, a charge transport layer and an interphase region. The interphase region includes a mixture of a charge generating material and a charge transport material, in intimate contact, and may be formed, for example, by applying a charge transport material prior to drying or curing an underlying charge generating layer to produce an interphase structure that is different from the charge generating and charge transport layers.
