Methods and computer systems for methods, computer systems, and computer-readable memory media for determining a warp function. An as-designed watertight spline model of an object is received. A set of sweep points along a sweep trajectory for manufacturing the object are used to determine a sweep surface. Model points are sampled from the as-designed watertight spline model and projected onto nearest as-executed points on the sweep surface. The projected as-executed points are used to construct an as-executed model of the object. A warp function is determined based on a difference between the as-designed watertight spline model and the as-executed model. The warp function is a continuous function approximating differences between the as-designed model and the as-manufactured object. The warp function is stored in a non-transitory computer-readable memory medium.

The present disclosure relates to a tensioning system for use in a stereolithography manufacturing application. The system may have a build plate for supporting a three dimensional part being formed using a photo responsive resin, a base plate and a release element extending over the base plate. The release element is configured to receive a quantity of photo responsive resin for forming a new material layer of the three dimensional part. A pair of tensioning components are secured to opposite ends of the release element, and apply a controlled tension force to the release element during peeling of the release element to reduce a separation force required to separate the release element from the new material layer after the new material layer is cured.

The present disclosure relates to a liquid crystal display (LCD) system. The system in one example has a light source for generating unpolarized light, and an LCD screen arranged in a path of transmittance of the unpolarized light. First and second wire grid polarizers are arranged adjacent to the LCD screen and each have a plurality of nano-scale wires, with the first and second wire grid polarizers have differing polarizations. A pitch of each of the nano-scale wires is no larger than one-third a wavelength of the unpolarized light from the light source. The wire grid polarizers create, in connection with operation of the LCD screen, a 2D light mask suitable for initiating the polymerization of an optically curable material.

A mechanism is disclosed for reconstructing trimmed surfaces whose underlying spline surfaces intersect in model space, so that the reconstructed version of each original trimmed surface is geometrically close to the original trimmed surface, and so that the boundary of each respective reconstructed version includes a model space trim curve that approximates the geometric intersection of the underlying spline surfaces. Thus, the reconstructed versions will meet in a continuous fashion along the model space curve. The mechanism may operate on already trimmed surfaces such as may be available in a boundary representation object model, or, on spline surfaces that are to be trimmed, e.g., as part of a Boolean operation in a computer-aided design system. The ability to create objects with surface-surface intersections that are free of gaps liberates a whole host of downstream industries to perform their respective applications without the burdensome labor of gap repair, and thus, multiplies the efficacy of those industries.

A process for making bone implants from calcium phosphate powders is disclosed. This process involves selectively fusing layers of calcium powders that have been coated or mixed with polymer binders. The calcium powder mixture may be formed into layers and the polymer fused with a laser. Complex three-dimensional geometrical shapes can be automatically replicated or modified using this approach.
