A ventilation system maintains a temperature for a computer equipment enclosure using a combination of air conditioning and outside (ambient) air exchange based on a graphical user interface (GUI) for setting a range of temperature at which the ventilation system maintains the temperature. Cooler temperatures allow ambient air exchange to keep the temperature sufficiently low, while air conditioning is invoked when exterior temperatures rise.

Ventilation controller for equipment enclosure

A facility monitoring system and application receives and interprets readings from multiple sensors for determining a condition, alert or alarm and initiating appropriate notifications. Low-cost, deployed sensors detect or receive a parameter pertaining to a condition in a physical space, such as temperature, electric flow, or an open door. A channel to a remote monitoring server or application receives and reports the reading via a user accessible GUI (graphical user interface). A compound or aggregate value is computed from multiple channels based on readings from a plurality of sensors, thus allowing reporting of conclusory conditions based on several related readings, rather than a single scalar sensor value that imposes a burden on the user to deduce or investigate other related sensor readings. A GUI receives aggregation processor defining computations to be performed on readings from the multiple sensors, and alert processor defining conditions and alerts representative of issues requiring attention.

Facility monitoring sensor

An HVAC controller for an equipment enclosure or machine room employs ambient air exchange and compressor driven cooling appliances for maintaining an operating temperature of a telecommunications machine room within acceptable levels. Coordinated engagement of the ambient air exchange and a plurality of lead/lag cooling appliances provides staged engagement of the cooling appliances to correspond to a cooling demand. Designation of lead and lag cooling appliances is alternated according to a designation interval to avoid disproportionate use of individual cooling appliances for promoting longevity. Multiple cooling appliances alternate the lead/lag designation to equalize equipment wear, and alternation of the lead/lag designation follows an normal operational satisfaction of the cooling demand, to minimize a frequency of equipment engagement (power up) cycles which contribute to wear.

A power detection device for a facility monitoring system provides non-contact power detection in a power supply line for determining a powered up or energized state of equipment connected to the power supply line. The power detection device is adapted to be disposed in communication with a live power supply line without disconnecting or interrupting the power supply to the powered equipment. A hinged casing including a sensor circuit for detecting electrical current is frictionally engaged to the power supply line by closing the hinge and drawing opposed sides of the casing together. Sensor signals are aggregated and amplified such that an amplified signal above a threshold is indicative of a current flow sufficient to power the equipment and render a determination of an energized, or 'equipment on' state. Conversely, the lack of a threshold signal indicates inactive equipment such that remedial measures may be commenced.
