An environmental control system (ECS) for an aircraft may be employed to regulate temperature of air entering a cabin of the aircraft. During conditioning of the air, condensate may form in the air. A multiple-stage condensate extraction unit may be incorporated into the ECS to remove the condensate. The extraction unit may be provided with two fluid collection stages built into a cylindrical duct. The duct may have a bend therein. One of the collection stages may be positioned on an upstream side of the bend while the second one of the stages may be positioned on a downstream side thereof. The combination of the two stages and their positioning on either side of the bend may provide a particularly compact and efficient condensate extraction unit.

Apparatus and method for extracting condensate

A method of providing gas to a system which separates from a pressurized supply gas, product gas, includes conditioning the supply gas by both cooling and drying the supply gas.

Oxygen supply system

A closed loop air conditioning system for an aircraft includes a compressor stage including at least one power driven compressor, for compressing working fluid, a first expansion turbine over which compressed working fluid is expanded and cooled, a first heat load heat exchanger in which heat from a first heat load is exchanged to the expanded and cooled working fluid, a second expansion turbine over which working fluid from the first heat exchanger is further expanded and cooled, and a second heat load heat exchanger in which heat from a second heat load is exchanged to the further expanded and cooled working fluid.

Closed loop air conditioning system

Cooling apparatus for use on a vehicle. The apparatus includes a heat exchanger in which heat is removed from a heat load by a coolant, and first and second coolant supplies. The first coolant supply is adapted to receive a first coolant and to supply the first coolant to the heat exchanger. The first coolant is available during normal vehicle operations. The second coolant supply is adapted to receive a second coolant and to supply the second coolant to the heat exchanger. The second coolant is supplied by a fluid supply and is unavailable during normal vehicle operation.

Cooling apparatus

An air conditioning system for an aircraft in which cabin air is recirculated and mixed with cold air from an air conditioning machine which includes at least an expansion turbine over which warm pressurised air is expanded and cooled, and wherein the system includes a heat exchanger in which a heat load from hot cabin air and/or a hot avionics system is exchanged with the warm pressurised air prior to the pressurised air being expanded by the expansion turbine.

An air conditioning system for conditioning a supply of hot pressurised air for use in an environment the system including a primary heat exchanger in which heat in the hot pressurised air supply is exchanged with a cooling fluid, a compressor to compress the supply of pressurised air cooled in the primary heat exchanger, a secondary heat exchanger in which heat in the compressed air supply is exchanged with a cooling fluid, and an expansion device for expanding and cooling the compressed air supply cooled in the secondary heat exchanger, mixing apparatus for mixing the expanded and cold supply air with recirculating air from the environment, a by-pass flow path for compressed cooled supply air from the secondary heat exchanger to the environment, and a secondary supply flow path for the hot pressurised air to the secondary heat exchanger, a first valve in a primary supply flow path to the primary heat exchanger, a second valve in the secondary supply flow path to the secondary heat exchanger, a third valve in a flow path for the compressed air supply to the secondary heat exchanger, a fourth valve in the flow path for cooled compressed supply air from the secondary heat exchanger, and a by-pass valve in the by-pass flow path for compressed cooled supply air from the secondary heat exchanger, a first air flow sensor for sensing air flow from the supply to the primary heat exchanger when the first valve is open, a second air flow sensor for sensing air flow from the secondary heat exchanger along the by-pass flow path when the by-pass valve is open, and a third air flow sensor for sensing air flow of the expanded and cold supply air towards the mixing apparatus, and a controller for controlling each of the valves and for receiving inputs from each of the air flow sensors.

Air conditioning system and method of testing

An air conditioning system for an aircraft in which cabin air is recirculated and mixed with cold air from an air conditioning machine which includes at least one expansion turbine over which warm pressurized air is expanded and cooled, and wherein the system includes a heat exchanger in which a heat load from hot cabin air is exchanged with the warm pressurized air prior to the pressurized air being expanded by the expansion turbine, further including a condenser heat exchanger in which recirculating cabin air is used to cool and promote water removal from the warm pressurized air before it is expanded by the expansion turbine.

An electric motor assembly e.g. for an air cycle air conditioning apparatus comprises stator windings and a rotating member mounted for rotation about a motor axis and wherein, the stator windings comprise therethrough at least one axially extending passage, and there being means to connect the passage to a source of cooling gas, whereby as the cooling gas flows along the axially extending passage the motor assembly is cooled.
