A system and method of identifying and quantifying congestion within a traffic stream including obtaining telemetric data from a plurality of vehicles traveling within a plurality of normalized road segments, determining a property of each normalized road segment based on the telemetric data and a road profile for each road segment, determining a disruption score indicative of a level of disruption in a traffic flow within each road segment, mapping the road segments within a two-dimensional spatial-temporal grid of cells, wherein each cell represents a normalized road segment at a specified time, for each cell, determining if the traffic flow is congested, identifying a congested traffic stream including a plurality of contiguous cells that have congested traffic flow, quantifying the congested traffic stream, and providing an output signal.

A method for assessing lateral acceleration includes receiving vehicle telemetry data. The vehicle telemetry data includes a plurality of geographical positions along the curved trajectory traveled by the vehicle, the heading of the vehicle at each of the plurality of geographical, and the velocity of the vehicle at each of the plurality of geographical positions. The method further includes determining a curve radius of the curve trajectory traveled by the vehicle using the vehicle telemetry data and determining a lateral acceleration of the vehicle at each of the plurality of geographical positions along the curve trajectory The method further includes converting the lateral acceleration of the vehicle at each of the plurality of geographical positions along the curve trajectory traveled by the vehicle into a g-force.

A weather sensing and reporting system includes a filter module configured to receive weather condition data collected by a plurality of vehicles in a reporting region and filter the weather condition data by selectively removing individual samples from the weather condition data based on meteorological quality control standards. The telemetric device obtains telemetric data related to the road segment being traversed by the vehicle. An example method includes introducing known volumes of fuel into the fuel tank, determining correlations of fuel level percentage values relative to the known volumes of fuel placed into the fuel tank, offsetting the correlations to compensate for unusable fuel volume of the fuel tank, selecting a non-linear fuel tank model that fits the offset correlations, and applying the non-linear fuel tank model to a target vehicle having a fuel tank with a fuel tank part number.

An example method includes determining a fuel level percentage estimate or a fuel volume estimate for a vehicle at a first point in time and a second point in time for a trip, the fuel level percentage estimate or the fuel volume estimate being determined using a fuel tank model of a fuel tank of a vehicle, determining connected vehicle data that includes a determination of accumulated fuel consumed during the trip, and determining an accuracy of fuel tank model using the fuel level percentage estimate or the fuel volume estimate calculated at the first point in time and the second point in time, as well as the accumulated fuel consumed during the trip.

Vehicle fuel volume consumption estimation and accuracy analysis systems and methods

A powertrain controller of a vehicle provides a fuel pump actuator signal indicative of fuel flow to a vehicle bus. A processor is configured to receive data from the vehicle bus. The processor performs an integration of the actuator signal to accumulate fuel usage of the vehicle, and periodically sends the accumulated fuel usage, vehicle speed, engine speed, engine status, and vehicle location to a remote server. A subset of accumulated fuel usage is retrieved for a set of the vehicles of a fleet traversing a route during a timeframe, the accumulated fuel usage compiled from fuel pump actuator signals. Fuel waste is computed for identified idle time periods within the accumulated fuel usage. Monetary waste is computed from the fuel waste. A report is generated including the monetary waste.
