A dropout recloser is capable of in accordance with its operating programming after a predetermined number of fault interrupting operations, e.g., 1, 2, 3 or more but typically 3, to drop out of a cutout and hang freely in a hinge contact of the cutout providing sectionalization with an observable visible gap. The recloser includes fault interrupting and reclosing components, a drop out mechanism and a controller. The drop out mechanism may include a bi-stable actuator to affect fault interrupting operation and dropout operation. The device may include motion limiting structures. The recloser may have a number of operating modes or sequences.

Dropout recloser

A power fuse assembly includes a fuse mounting, a fuse unit, and a hinge assembly. The fuse unit is configured to carry current from a line connection to a load connection. The hinge assembly is configured to be removeably coupled to the fuse unit and to allow rotation of the fuse unit relative to the fuse mounting. The hinge assembly including: an inlet configured to accept incoming gases produced by the fuse unit in response to an overload event, the inlet having a first orientation; an outlet in fluid communication with the inlet, the outlet having a second orientation that is not equal to the first orientation; and a diverter component disposed between the inlet and the outlet, the diverter configured to guide the flow of the gases between the inlet and the outlet.

Fuse link exhaust systems and methods

A magnetic module in a circuit interrupting system is configured to generate a blow-on force that pushes a moving contact toward a stationary contact. The magnetic module includes: a coil conductor having an opening through which a moving stem of the moving contact may move, wherein the coil conductor is electrically connected to the moving stem and a first auxiliary conductor, wherein the coil conductor is configured to allow current to flow from the moving stem to the first auxiliary conductor; a plunger attached to an end of the moving stem; and a first magnetic core shaped to fit around a first section of the coil conductor, wherein the first magnetic core is configured, when current flows through the coil conductor to the first auxiliary conductor, to become magnetized, attract the plunger toward the magnetic core, and cause the moving stem of the moving contact to move toward the stationary contact.

A remote access pull rig for opening a fuse associated with a power distribution system is provided. The remote access pull rig includes a base adapted to be coupled to the fuse and a first leg coupled to the base. The first leg includes a first clamp. The remote access pull rig also includes a second leg coupled to the base. The first leg and the second leg extend along a longitudinal axis of the remote access pull rig, and the second leg including a second clamp. The remote access pull rig includes an arm coupled to the base. The arm extends along an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis and includes a third clamp.

A shake-proof hook is provided, which includes a hook end that defines a receptacle. The hook end includes a lead-in portion and a channel spaced apart from the lead-in portion. The shake-proof hook includes a coupling end coupled to the hook end. The coupling end includes a retaining portion and at least one coupling ring. The retaining portion extends along a first axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of the shake-proof hook and the at least one coupling ring extends along a second axis. The second axis is transverse to the longitudinal axis and the second axis is different than the first axis.

A fault interrupting and reclosing device includes a circuit interrupter coupled to an actuator. The actuator includes at least one force generating element for generating an opening force for opening the circuit interrupter and for generating a restoring force to close the circuit interrupter. The device further includes a latch to engage the actuator to hold the contacts open once opened. In a preferred arrangement, the device is provided with an automatic mode of operation including a reclose process and a non-reclosing mode of operation. The device also preferably includes a method of determining the end-of-life of a vacuum interrupter monitors characteristics and/or parameters of a fault current or vacuum interrupter operation to predict a percent of life consumed with each fault current interruption operation. A cumulative percent of life consumed may also be determined, and an end-of-life may be predicted based upon the cumulative percent of life consumed.

Fault interrupting and reclosing device

A fault interrupter and a method of operating a fault interrupter to reduce arcing time during fault interruption. Fault interrupter operation is delayed following detecting a peak current such that its operation occurs at a point of the current wave resulting in reduced arcing during fault isolation.

A latching electromagnetically actuable device comprises an electromagnet and an electrical coil. The electromagnet comprises an armature and a core. At least one of the armature and the core is of a magnetically hard material. A housing supports the electromagnet and the coil. Energizing the coil in a first direction magnetizes the magnetically hard material to draw the armature and core together and latch the electromagnet. Energizing the coil is a second direction releases the electromagnet.

System and method for latching magnetic operator device

An electromagnetically actuable device includes a base. A magnetic core is fixedly mounted to the base. An armature is movably mounted to the base proximate the magnetic core. A coil is fixedly mounted to the base and is selectively energized to draw the armature to the magnetic core. The armature and magnetic core have mating surfaces adapted to provide three contact areas in a triangular configuration to provide minimal magnetic air gap and a stable interface when the coil is energized.
