A novel method is disclosed to create elongated apertures from circular holes provide a snap fit of square or rectangular tabs or tangs without requiring special tooling or milling. According to the method of the invention, at the intersection of the circular holes, points of engagement are formed that hold the square or rectangular tab in place. The size and spacing of the intersecting circular holes determine the depth of the points of engagement and the size of the square or rectangular tab that can be held.

Method for producing snap fit apertures for RF shield fences

A removable RF shield cover that snap-fit attaches to RF shield fence walls without special tools or soldering. The RF shield cover engage the interior surface of the shield wall with a tensional force that holds the RF shield cover and provides for a continuous metal-to-metal seal to isolate electronic components to reduce RF emissions or protect against electo-magnetic interference. The snap-fit attachment enables the RF shield cover to be easily removed from the fence, without special tools, to access components within the RF shield enclosure.

An electronic isolation shield mounts on a circuit board, around an electronic component to provide a minimum amount of shielding over a set period of time. The shield has a body made from a shielding material that is sized and shaped to fit around and cover the electronic component. The body has a sealing edge that is adapted to contact an upper surface of the circuit board and surround the electronic component. Resilient downwardly projecting tabs are attached to the body and each includes a securing end that extends past the sealing edge. The tab is securable to the circuit board along a securing axis. The sealing edge of the body is forced into sealing engagement with the upper surface of circuit board. The tab is laterally displaced with respect to the securing axis continuously over the set period of time so that the sealing edge is forced into the circuit board sufficiently to provide the minimum amount of shielding to the electronic component over the set period of time. A method of determining the minimum number of tabs that are required includes ascertaining the creep strain for the tab material, determining the mathematical ratio between pressure applied by the tabs at the beginning of the shield's service life to the pressure applied at the end of the service life, determining the minimum amount of pressure that is required to be applied by the tabs throughout the service life, and determining the minimum number of tabs that are required to apply the determined minimum pressure throughout the entire set period of time based on the determined mathematical ratio.

An RF shield dividing components on a printed circuit board into separate compartments in the form of a divider wall having a lower edge surface soldered onto the printed circuit board and an upper edge surface including along the length thereof a plurality of adjacent upwardly extending metal Y-fold arms as a self-contained or built-in gasket to physically contact and electrically ground a metal cover section enclosing the components.

Electronic isolation shield and a method of determining the minimum

A removable transistor clamping fixture is disclosed which comprises an outer housing with a crosspiece configured to sit on top of the transistor. A U-shaped plunger straddles the crosspiece and has feet configured to rest on top of the transistor leads. One or more compression spring are placed between the top of the plunger and a coverplate so as to bias the plunger in a downward manner. When the clamping fixture is placed over a transistor, the crosspiece holds the transistor in place while the plunger feet apply a uniform downward pressure on the transistor leads of sufficient force to place the leads in electrical contact with an underlying printed circuit board. The clamping unit can be made largely from a plastic having a low dielectric constant to reduce the effect of the clamping fixture on the transistor's behavior.
