A printing apparatus includes a media path within a body of the printing apparatus. The media path moves sheets of media through the body of the printing apparatus. A marking engine is also within the body of the printing apparatus. The media path supplies the printing media to the marking engine. A processor is within the body of the printing apparatus. The processor is operatively connected to the marking engine, and the processor controls actions of the marking engine. Sensors are within the body of the printing apparatus. The sensors are operatively connected to the processor, and the sensors are positioned along the media path. The sensors detect locations and conditions of the sheets of media as the sheets of media travel along the media path. The sensors have a first clip shape. Further, clip connectors are located within the body of the printing apparatus. The clip connectors are connected to the sensors. Additionally, light structures are connected to the clip connectors. The light structures have an identical shape as the sensors for connecting to the clip connectors.

Printing device internal lighting

A method for providing increased performance in fully active retard feeders includes driving a feed roll and retard roll pair of a reprographic apparatus backwards periodically at the start of the machine or during idle periods to compensate for contamination buildup and/or roll 'set' when left in position overnight.

Retard feeder

A 3-way letterbox media diverter directs and controls media in 2 forward directions and 1 reverse direction within a printer's paper path. The letterbox design enables actuation of the diverter from a first position to a second position just as the trail edge of a sheet passes a post fuser nip. Once the diverter reaches the second position, an invert nip now controlling the sheet is reversed to thereby invert the sheet. Thus, inversion of the sheet is accomplished in a small space envelope, time to reverse direction is reduced, process speed can be reduced and additional paper guides are eliminated.

Letterbox media diverter

A method for folding sheets of a medium is provided. The method includes rotating a cam mechanism through a first period of rotation to cause a crease blade to move in a contact direction to create a crease in the sheets by pushing the sheets between a pair of first rolls, and rotating the cam mechanism through a second period of rotation to cause the crease blade to move in a retracting direction away from the sheets and cause a lever to move first and second scissor arms such that the pair of first rolls is separated and a pair of second rolls is separated. One of the second rolls is movable by the second scissor arm.

Pressure reducing folding system

A device for folding sheets of a medium into a booklet is provided. The device includes a frame; a cam mechanism attached to the frame; a lever attached to the frame, the lever being actuated by the cam mechanism; a first scissor arm attached to the frame, the first scissor arm being actuated by the lever; a pair of first rolls, one of the first rolls being movable by the first scissor arm; a second scissor arm attached to the frame, the second scissor arm being actuated by the lever; a pair of second rolls, one of the second rolls being movable by the second scissor arm; a crease blade for contacting the sheets to create a crease in the sheets; and a controller that controls a position of the crease blade, a gap between the pair of first rolls, and a gap between the pair of second rolls.

Pressure reducing folding system that adapts to booklet thickness

A device for folding sheets of a medium is provided. The device has a frame; a cam mechanism attached to the frame; a lever attached to the frame, the lever being actuated by the cam mechanism; a first scissor arm attached to the frame, the first scissor arm being actuated by the lever; a pair of first rolls, one of the first rolls being movable by the first scissor arm; a second scissor arm attached to the frame, the second scissor arm being actuated by the lever; a pair of second rolls, one of the second rolls being movable by the second scissor arm; and a crease blade for contacting the sheets to create a crease in the sheets. Rotation of the cam mechanism through a first period of rotation causes the crease blade to move in a contact direction to create the crease in the sheets by pushing the sheets between the first rolls. Rotation of the cam mechanism through a second period of rotation causes the crease blade to move in a retracting direction away from the sheets and causes the lever to move the first and second scissor arms such that the first pair of rolls is separated and the second pair of rolls is separated.

A magnetic latch for removably latching a first member to a second member includes a magnet emitting a magnetic field carried by the first member and a magnetically attractive catch plate carried by the second member. A release mechanism is provided for moving the magnet relative to the catch plate from a first position in which the catch plate is strongly engaged with the magnetic field to a second position in which the catch plate is weakly engaged with the magnetic field. The release mechanism includes a lever, pivotally mounted to one of the first and second members and a biasing member carried by the other of the first and second members, the lever engaging the biasing member during pivoting of the lever. The release mechanism enables the magnetic engagement of the members to be broken with a relatively small applied force.
