A writing system is usable in apparatus in which mirrors in a 'V' configuration, split mirrors, a combining mirror and a camera mirror project images of opposite sides of a document in an imaging region to a microfilm in side-by-side relation. The writing system includes mirrors which project alpha or numeric character images from an LED display to the combining mirror to be projected to an otherwise unused portion of the microfilm. A compact folded path is provided having the same focal distance as that provided by the document image projecting mirrors.

Film number writing system

A document feeder includes a feed tray which is pivotal about a horizontal axis between an elevated automatic position in which it can be locked and in which the uppermost document of a stack of documents thereon is engaged with an endless belt skimmer to be fed from the stack, and a lowered manual position away from the skimmer for manual feed of a single document. A reverse feed roller is movable with the feed tray and is operative in the automatic position to inhibit feed of documents other than the uppermost document of a stack.

Dual mode document feeder

An improved mechanism for incrementing characters in a printing device, generally applicable to the field of endorsers. An endless character belt has printing characters on its outer surface, the character belt designed to be incremented to present varied characters. The belt is moved by means of a sprocket wheel having gear teeth. A rod with an upstanding pin engages the sprocket wheel of the character belt to be incremented. By stacking several character belts adjacent to each other, each having its own sprocket wheel, the belts can be incremented separately and apart from each other.

Date band indexing mechanism for endorser

A web drive system for automatically reversing the direction of travel of the web when the end of the web is reached. A reversible electric motor provides power to either the supply or take up spindles. An end of the web is affixed to each of the spindles so that either spindle can be provided with power to draw the web from the other spindle. A planetary gear system provides power to whichever spindle acts as the take up spindle until the end of the web is sensed. The motor is then reversed and the planetary gear then provides power to the other spindle, which was previously the supply spindle.

Reversible ribbon drive

A sheet feeder apparatus having a feed roller, a reverse roller, a movable sheet support platform for furnishing sheets from a stack to the feed roller, and a pivotable arm with pickup roller for engaging the stack of sheets on the support platform. The sheet support platform is spring driven and equipped with a brake mechanism operable responsive to movement of the pivotable arm which is caused by feeding of sheets from the stack, thereby to permit the spring to drive the sheet support mechanism into further feeding disposition. The nip between the feed roller and reverse roller of the apparatus may be selectively controlled to accommodate sheets of various thicknesses by means of a pivot shaft connected to the reverse roller, which shaft has a levered end engaging a manually operated adjustment cam and release lever mechanism.
