A flexible bag is loaded in at least two stages utilizing a loading ring of rigid plastic material having a height less than its diameter and having a height less than approximately one-half the height of the trash bag. The bag is inserted into the loading ring presenting an upper bag section surrounded by the ring section, and is filled with refuse, the lower section of the bag being in a collapsed condition beneath the ring. The ring an upper bag section are then manually shifted upwardly causing the refuse to drop by gravity into the bag lower section, after which the upper bag section is again filled with refuse material, and the loading ring is either removed depending on the bag size, or the loading ring together with the upper bag section is again shifted upwardly to present another unloaded upper bag section which is again filled with refuse. A two-stage or a three-stage loading operation is effected.

Device for loading trash bags

A child resistant package includes a snap-on closure of rigid and stiff material on a container having a neck finish with an annular locking rib having at least one notch. The closure has a locking lug extending radially inwardly from its skirt in alignment in a fire position with the notch upon rotation of the closure to permit removal of the closure when in the fire position. A finger tab extends radially outwardly from the skirt in alignment with the locking lug, and the skirt has rib structure extending radially inwardly from the skirt circumferentially spaced from the locking lug. The locking rib and rib structure having coacting cams for resiliently expanding the skirt upon snap locking the closure to the neck finish and upon removal of the closure. The locking lug and the rib structure are interengaged with the locking rib upon snap locking and the rib structure becomes disengaged from the locking rib upon removal of the closure. The improvement comprises the provision of at least one non-frangible disruption in the skirt for permitting at least one segment of the skirt adjacent such disruption to flex from an initial unflexed position thereof radially outwardly and back to its initial position as the rib structure disengages from the locking rib upon the removal of the closure and as the rib structure engages the locking rib upon the snap locking of the closure to the neck finish.

Child-resistant closure with easy opening feature

A molded carton is provided having a lock system for retaining a cover section in an overlying closed relation with the open top of a base section. The lock system includes a hinged flange mounted on a front segment of the base sections defining the open top. The flange is mounted for limited inward pivotal movement from a normal upright position wherein the flange projects generally upwardly from the front of the base section. The flange is provided with a predetermined number of outwardly projecting protrusions which, when the cover section is in closed position, interlockingly engage a corresponding number of apertures formed in the front wall of the cover section.

Multi-row, windowed, molded egg cartons each have a relatively shallow cover hinged to a relatively deep tray wherein the cover is provided with a channeled formation in the cover which is reinforced by six ribs and wherein the hinge line between the cover and tray is so located that when the carton is open the top of the cover and the bottom of the tray are in the same plane and the top of the tray is in a plane above bottom of the cover and the cells in the tray each have square bottoms with the sides of the squares arranged at an angle of 45.degree. to the sides of the carton.

Multi-row egg cartons

A new and improved molded egg cell construction wherein the molded egg cell includes a cushion or pillopad on an up-post side wall of the cell which projects inwardly, a thin area formed on the outside of the cell adjacent its bottom which is square, the sides of which are oriented at 45.degree. to the sides and ends of the egg carton incorporating the cell, and in which the bottom is planar on its interior surface but formed with thin areas on the exterior of the bottom, in between which, is a footed formation.

An egg cell base is provided to create softened areas of egg contact. The base has a center area which creates a softened cushion for egg contact and also creates a gap to shield the eggs from contact with the surface upon which the egg carton rests. Internally, the bottom is provided with a crater construction which helps distribute contact over a larger shell area, and also helps locate and hold the egg tip in place. Surrounding the central area are foot areas of greater thickness which provide strength for stacking. The ring cushion also is capable of providing an accordian motion upward to accommodate high eggs that may bulge the cover of the carton stacked therebelow during shipment.

A new and improved molded egg cell construction and method for its manufacture, wherein the molded egg cell includes a cushion or pillopad on an up-post side wall of the cell which projects inwardly, a thin area formed on the outside of the cell adjacent its bottom which is square, the sides of which are oriented at 45.degree. to the sides and ends of the egg carton incorporating the cell, and in which the bottom is planar on its interior surface but formed with thin areas on the exterior of the bottom, in between which, is a footed formation.

A tray of molded pulp or like material for carryout food and beverage comprising one or more pockets for receiving and firmly supporting any one of several different size beverage containers normally used in the carry-out food trade, each of the pockets having a circular floor portion, a web portion extending for a full 360.degree. around the circular floor portion in an area adjacent the circular floor portion and diverging in the upward direction, the web portion extending along a generally conic surface to an upper ridge, a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart tower-like members extending radially inwardly of the pocket from the web portion to firmly grip and support a beverage container which may be received in the pocket member but being too large in diameter to reach the circular floor portion, each of the tower-like members extending upwardly from the web portion at an area above the upper ridge of the web portion, each of the tower-like members including a pair of circumferentially spaced radially inwardly extending flanges having integral therewith at upper ends thereof a generally horizontal bridge, the pair of radially inwardly extending flanges and the bridge having radially inner edges which together with the web portion define an aperture facilitating stacking a tray having such pockets formed therein with like tray in nesting relationship, the radially inner edges of the flanges extending from upper ends thereof at the respective bridges toward the respective lower ends thereof at a steeper angle with the horizontal and closer to the vertical than the web portion whereby any beverage container received in the pocket will upon coming into contact with the radially inner edge of one of the flanges be maintained inwardly of the aperture defined thereby and above the circular floor portion to insure that any drippage or spillage from a beverage container will be retained within the floor portion within the enclosure provided by the web portion in the area adjacent the floor portion.

Molded pulp tray for beverage and food

A throw-away, one-use tray, for the packaging of easily bruised fruit and produce in conjunction with an overwrap plastic film, is provided with an open-window bottom configuration in which the bottom ribs defining the open windows are approximately 20% greater thickness than the side walls of the tray. The rib form at the bottom serves the functions of stiffening the bottom more than would ribs resulting from die cut openings, and creating a smooth rolled edge in contact with the produce to reduce cutting and bruising.

Food packaging tray

A tray of molded pulp or the like for packaging meat, poultry or fish in conjunction with an overwrap transparent film and the method and apparatus for making the tray. The tray bottom is formed of a plurality of generally vertical ribs joining or intersecting in two directions and defining open windows therebetween, the height of each rib being on the order of several times the thickness of the remainder of the tray, the side and end walls having double sloped portions, and the total volume of the ribs being approximately equal to the volume of a bottom of an imperforate bottom tray of the same size. The method of making a tray including the steps of (a) taking a wet preform of molded pulp or the like formed in an open bottom construction with a plurality of inverted V or U-shaped ribs joining or intersecting in two directions and defining open windows therebetween and pressing the side walls of the V or U-shaped ribs together to impart to said ribs the form of generally vertical ribs with parallel side wall portions, and (b) drying the tray under controlled conditions to final form for storage or shipment. The apparatus for making a tray comprising a male forming die member including a plurality of rib grooves joining or intersecting in two directions into which a wet preform of molded pulp or the like may be transferred; a stuffing element for effecting initial seating of the rib members of the wet preform within the rib grooves; and female press die member with a plurality of insert plugs for pressing the ribs of the preform into the rib grooves of the male die member into fully seated relationship whereby final shape of the tray is imparted to the preform.

Apparatus for making high strength open bottom packaging tray

A dual basis weight carton of molded construction of pulp, foam or equivalent material comprising an article retaining cellular tray, a cover element and a lock flap element being in integrally hinged relationship with said cellular tray. The said carton being further characterized in that said cover element and said lock flap element are of a higher basis weight than said cellular tray; said cellular tray being of a lower basis weight except in the areas in which said cover element and said lock flap element are hinged to said cellular tray, in the area of the side wall of the upper ends of the cellular tray at each end of the carton, in the area of horizontally extending flanges at each end of said carton, and in the area of denesting ledges at each end of said carton, all of which are of a higher basis weight.

Dual basis weight multi-walled egg carton end cells

A molded egg carton having a windowed cover and a cellular tray for the reception of eggs in which the windowed cover includes downposts and the tray includes up posts and in which the downposts have an offset male portion and the up posts are formed with a recess in their uppermost portion adapted to receive the offset lowermost tip of the offset male portion. The windows in the cover are on each side of the downposts and are set in relatively steep walls which form parts of the downposts. The windows are provided with 'eye lid' formations.
