A ball bearing and housing assembly includes a shaft having a stepped bore extending therethrough. The stepped bore is defined by a first bore segment having an inboard cylindrical interior surface that has a first bore diameter. The first bore segment extends from a shaft end and terminates at a shoulder. The shoulder is axially located between a first radial centerline of a plurality of balls and an inner axial end. The stepped bore is further defined by a second bore segment having an outboard cylindrical interior surface that has second bore diameter. The second bore segment extends axially from the inner axial end towards the shaft end and terminates at the shoulder. The second bore diameter is greater than the first bore diameter. A fastener is fitted through the first bore segment and threaded into a housing.

A seal for a bearing includes an annular retaining ring defining a first radially innermost portion and a first radially outer end; and a resilient ring defining a second radially innermost portion and a second radially outer end. The first radially innermost portion and the second radially innermost portion are aligned with one another and together define a securing root of the seal. The root is adapted to seat in a groove of an inner ring of the bearing. The resilient ring projects radially outward from the annular retaining ring. The resilient ring is more flexible than the annular retaining ring. The second radially outer end defines a sealing surface adapted to slidingly engage an inner bearing surface of an outer ring of the bearing. The first radially outer end of the retaining ring terminates between the first radially innermost portion and the second radially outer end of the resilient ring.

Seal for self aligning roller bearing

An edge flap arrangement for an aircraft wing includes a main flap element and an actuator for moving the main flap element relative to the aircraft wing. A linkage arrangement supports the main flap element and includes a drop hinge link arrangement having a fixed strut secured to the aircraft wing and a drop link secured to the main flap element. The fixed strut and the drop link are connected by a hinge point having an hourglass bearing assembly having hourglass shaped rollers with a circular cross section symmetrical about a longitudinal axis, first and second axial ends, and an exterior surface. The exterior surface defines a concave engagement surface having a first radius of curvature Rand a second radius of curvature which is greater than the first radius of curvature R. The first radius of curvature is between 50 and 95 percent of the second radius of curvature.

An edge flap arrangement for an aircraft wing includes a main flap element and an actuator. A linkage arrangement supports the main flap. The linkage arrangement includes a drop hinge link arrangement. The drop hinge link arrangement includes a fixed strut and a drop link. The fixed strut and the drop link are pivotally connected by a hinge point. The hinge point includes an hourglass bearing. The hourglass bearing includes an inner member, an outer member, and a plurality of hourglass rollers. Any combination of the inner member, the outer member, and the hourglass rollers are fabricated from CREN, Cronidur 30, XD15NW, 422 Stainless Steel, CRES, and/or 440C Stainless Steel. A cage is disposed between the inner member and the outer member. The cage includes a plurality of first rails and a plurality of second rails. Opposing pairs of first rails and second rails define a plurality of pockets.

Bearing installed on an aircraft structure

A thrust bearing assembly generally includes a cage and a plurality of rolling elements. The cage has first and second cage halves with each cage half having a respective radial segment with a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings. Each opening has an opening perimeter. The cage halves are interconnected with portions of the radial segments circumferentially between the plurality of openings abutting along a given plane and the respective openings aligned to defined rolling element pockets. The rolling elements are positioned in the rolling element pockets such that a centerline of each rolling element lies in or in proximity to the given plane. A flange extends along at least a portion of each opening perimeter to retain the rolling elements within a respective one of the rolling element pockets.

Thrust bearing assembly

A two-step finger follower rocker arm assembly comprising a follower body having a first end for engaging the engine and a second end for engaging a valve stem of the gas valve. The follower body has a passage formed in the body between the first and second ends and has a first bore traversing the passage. A central follower is positioned in the passage and is configured for engagement with the central lobe. A first lateral follower is pivotally supported on a shaft extending through the first bore and is configured to engage the at least one lateral cam lobe. A latching mechanism is positioned on the follower body for selectively latching the lateral follower to the body.

A planetary gear assembly includes a carrier, a planet shaft, a planet gear, and a plurality of rollers. The planet shaft is coupled to the carrier. The planet gear is rotatable about the planet shaft and the plurality of rollers are between the planet gear and the planet shaft to facilitate rotation of the planet gear about the planet shaft. The planetary gear assembly further includes a sleeve that surrounds the planet shaft such that the plurality of rollers roll on the sleeve.

A first race component includes a flat, circular raceway portion, defined about an axis, and an axially extending lip portion. A plurality of needle rollers is arranged radially with respect to the axis for rolling contact with the flat raceway. A bearing cage retains the needle rollers and is engageable with the lip portion of the first component for piloting of the bearing cage. A second race component, made of different material, includes a flat portion in contact with the raceway portion of the first race component and a lip portion extending axially and radially from the flat portion and beyond the lip portion of the first race component such that the second race component is engageable by the bearing cage to hold the first race component, the second race component and the bearing cage together as an assembly.

Thrust bearing and method of making same

A needle bearing cup includes an inner bearing cup having an inner surface which forms a rolling element raceway and an outer bearing cup disposed about the periphery of the inner bearing cup having a length greater than a length of the inner bearing cup to form a lip. The lip of the outer bearing cup is then formed to retain rolling elements within the inner bearing cup. Preferably, the rolling elements are needle rollers and the inner bearing cup is secured to an outer bearing cup by mechanical lock in the form of a protruding portion extending from the outer bearing cup. The bearing cup may be double drawn with first and second sheet metal blanks forming the inner and outer bearing cups. The lip of the outer bearing cup may be formed through ductile expansion using a punch having an inner diameter portion joined to an outer diameter portion with a step that contacts a top portion of the continuous sidewall portion of the inner bearing cup such that the lip extends about the outer diameter portion of the punch.

A shaft is mounted on side walls of a rocker arm, extending through a central cavity of the rocker arm. A bearing is located within the cavity of the rocker arm, positioned over the shaft. A yoke member adapted for mounting on the internal combustion engine has a curved portion enclosing a portion of the outer circumference of the bearing such that the bearing supports the rocker arm when the yoke mount rocker arm assembly is mounted on the internal combustion engine.

A double-walled bearing cup has an inner cup portion and an outer cup portion fixed over the inner cup portion. Abutment portions of the bearing cup are engageable with a retaining washer, which is positioned within the bearing cup and adapted to be fixed over a shaft, to limit axial movement of the bearing cup relative to the shaft. Rolling members positioned within the bearing cup are engageable directly with the shaft such that the bearing cup may freely rotate with respect to the shaft. The bearing cup may have an open, closed, or tapered end to facilitate use of the bearing assembly in various applications.

A bearing support member has two support arms extending in opposite directions along an axis and is adapted for mounting about a stud means. A bearing cup is fixed to the rocker arm, extending over each support arm. Rolling members are provided within an annulus formed between the support member and the bearing cups such that the rocker arm is free to oscillate rotatably with respect to the bearing support member. The bearing cups have a bottom surface forming an interference fit, axially, with an end surface of the bearing support member such that a preload is applied to the bearing support arm to reduce and control axial play. A protrusion and cutouts facilitating the preload and a method of assembly are also disclosed.
