A perforating gun system may include a central support structure and a plurality of charges secured to the central support structure. Each charge of the plurality of charges is configured to perforate a casing and/or sidewall of a wellbore upon detonation. Further, the plurality of charges comprises a first group of charges and a second group of charges, and each charge of the second group of charges is radially offset from each charge of the first group of charges with respect to the central support structure.

Interstitial spacing of perforating system

A dampening housing that may comprise a tubular structure, a chamber disposed within the tubular structure, and a first port disposed within the tubular structure about a first end of the chamber and providing fluid communication between the chamber to a wellbore. The dampening housing may further include a piston disposed within the chamber and configured to traverse the length of the chamber.

Perforating fluid shock dampener

An apparatus and method according to which a perforating gun includes a volume fill body. The volume fill body is positioned in the space between a charge tube and a carrier tube. The fill body occupies at least part, and sometimes all, of the free volume space between the charge tube and carrier tube thereby reducing the free volume space. In certain downhole applications, large free volume space can lead to significant reductions in wellbore pressure, causing dynamic underbalance, which is undesirable. The presence of the volume fill body prevents, or at least reduces, dynamic underbalance and its effects. Also, the volume fill body aligns the charge tube with the carrier tube, further assisting perforation.

The disclosed embodiments include bulkheads for perforating guns and perforating gun assemblies. A bulkhead includes a threadless exterior surface that spans a length of a threaded connection of adjacent first and second perforating guns. The bulkhead also includes a first exterior groove having a first sealing element partially disposed in the first exterior groove. The bulkhead further includes a second exterior groove having a second sealing element partially disposed in the second exterior groove, where the first sealing element and the second sealing element are positioned around the threaded connection.

Provided is a pressure cycle actuation assembly. The pressure cycle actuation assembly, in one aspect, includes a housing, a reciprocating piston located within the housing and defining first and second fluid chambers, and a check valve positioned between the first and second fluid chambers, the check valve permitting fluid flow from the first fluid chamber to the second fluid chamber but preventing fluid flow from the second fluid chamber to the first fluid chamber. The A pressure cycle actuation assembly, according to this aspect, further includes a flow restrictor positioned between the first and second fluid chambers, the flow restrictor restricting fluid flow between the first fluid chamber and the second fluid chamber, and a rotating collet coupled to the reciprocating piston, the rotating collet translating reciprocal axial motion of the reciprocating piston into one-direction rotation and axial lengthening or shortening of the rotating collet relative to the reciprocating piston.

Pressure cycle device

A perforating gun and method according to which a perforating charge of the perforating gun is detonated. Detonating the perforating charge produces shock waves. In some embodiments, detonating the perforating charge also perforates a wellbore proximate a subterranean formation. After detonating the perforating charge, first and second components of a binary energetic of the perforating gun are fragmented by the shock waves, mixed by the shock waves, and activated by the shock waves to increase an internal energy of the perforating gun. In some embodiments, increasing the internal energy of the perforating gun after detonating the perforating charge delays and/or decreases wellbore pressure drawdown.

A method of perforating a subterranean formation may comprise: inserting into a wellbore a perforating gun assembly comprising: a first gun assembly comprising a first perforating explosive and a first ballistic transfer element; a transfer assembly comprising a second ballistic transfer element; and a second gun assembly comprising a second perforating explosive, wherein the first gun assembly and the second gun assembly are separated from the transfer assembly by a discontinuity; detonating the first perforating explosive; propagating a ballistic signal from the first gun assembly, across the discontinuity, to the transfer assembly; propagating a ballistic signal though the transfer assembly to the second ballistic transfer element; propagating a ballistic signal from the transfer assembly, across the discontinuity, to the second gun assembly; and detonating the second perforating explosive.

Ballistic coupling of perforating arrays

A perforating gun including a carrier having a longitudinal length, one or more energetic devices received within the carrier configured to produce one or more mechanical waves, and one or more wave manipulators disposed along the longitudinal length of the carrier. The one or more wave manipulators generate an altered wave in an opposite travel direction of one or more mechanical waves traveling along the longitudinal length of the carrier.

Perforating gun

A perforating system and method includes a perforating gun with shaped charges and an orientation device. The orientation device provides an orientation datum. Sensors associated with the perforating gun detect relative alignment of each perforating gun as compared to the orientation datum. A detonation signal can be either sent or not sent to the perforating gun in response to the signal received from the orientation sensor.

An apparatus comprises a first cluster of perforator guns positioned circumferentially around a central longitudinal axis at a first axial position, wherein the first cluster is configured in a closed position while the apparatus is being lowered to a perforator position in a wellbore. After the apparatus is lowered to the perforator position, the first cluster is to move to an expanded position such that the perforator guns are moved closer to a target that is to be perforated.

A method and apparatus according to which a perforating gun includes a first detonation train and a second detonation train. The first detonation train is detonable to perforate a wellbore proximate a subterranean formation. The first detonation train includes a first detonating fuse and a perforating charge ballistically connected to the first detonating fuse. The second detonation train is detonable to increase an internal energy of the perforating gun after detonation of at least a portion of the first detonation train. The second detonation train includes a second detonating fuse ballistically connected to the first detonating fuse. In some embodiments, increasing the internal energy of the perforating gun after detonating the at least a portion of the first detonation train decreases and/or delays pressure drawdown within the wellbore.

This disclosure may generally relate to subterranean operations. A ballistic transfer apparatus may include a detonation transfer line, wherein the detonation transfer line comprises a first end and a second end; a first holder in engagement with the first end of the detonation transfer line to retain the detonation transfer line in the ballistic transfer apparatus; a second holder in engagement with the second end of the detonation transfer line to retain the detonation transfer line in the ballistic transfer apparatus; and a shroud extending between the first holder and the second holder that covers the detonation transfer line.

Sealed ballistic transfer apparatus

A perforating tool assembly may be modularized by providing modular charge segments to provide for multiple configurations of shaped charges without the requirement of excess inventory. The modular charge segments may comprise any number of modular charge holder segments and modular charge spacer segments which are configured to provide for different spacings and offsets of shaped charges disposed within the modular charge holder segments. The modular charge holder segments include slots and locking tabs to allow for the differing offsets between charges. The modular charge holder segments may comprise a slit that allows the modular holder segment to be flexed or deflected to permit the loading and downloading of shaped charges. The modular charge segments may comprise a plastic or rubber material to provide for safer deployment of shaped charges downhole.

A system and method of controlling a dynamic time-pressure profile associated with a perforation event that includes extending a perforation assembly within a casing string; firing a perforation gun of the perforation assembly; measuring, using a sensor of the perforation assembly, pressure within the casing string, wherein the measured pressure forms the dynamic time-pressure profile; identifying a first measured pressure within the dynamic time-pressure profile; identifying, using a controller of the perforation assembly, a first difference between the first measured pressure and a first reference pressure; and adjusting, using a first pressure generator of the perforation assembly, the pressure in response to the first difference to control the dynamic time-pressure profile; wherein the sensor, the controller, and the first pressure generator provide a feedback control loop.
