A method of organizing computer resources includes receiving a specification defining a plurality of quiescence groups of independent component instances for each of at least two services, and performing a first load balancing of the quiescence groups across a plurality of physical servers to define a plurality of supergroups while assigning each of the physical servers across the supergroups.

Hardware placement and maintenance scheduling in high availability systems

Orchestrated disaster recovery is provided in which replication volumes are automatically configured as part of a failover procedure. An example method includes obtaining replication volume configuration information identifying configuration of a replication volume in a data replication relationship in which data is replicated from a replication source to a replication target. The replication volume is configured for the replication source and replication volume remains at least partially non-configured for the replication target during data replication from the replication source to the replication target. Based on an indication of failover, the obtained configuration information is used in automatically configuring the replication volume for the replication target in preparation for use by application(s) of the replication target site. Automatically configuring includes configuring, for the replication volume, a volume group and a mount point.

Orchestrated disaster recovery

Identify individual machines of a multi-machine computing system. Construct a graph of dependencies among the machines. Obtain estimated total administration times and administration priorities for each of the machines. Identify availability of administration resources to assist in administration of one or more of the machines. Select a first set of machines for administration in response to the graph, administration priorities, estimated total administration times, and availability of the first set of administration resources, and administer the first set of machines in parallel using the first set of administration resources. Update the graph in response to administration of the first set of machines. Select a subsequent set of machines for administration in response to the updated graph, administration priorities, estimated total administration times, and availability of a subsequent set of administration resources. Administer the subsequent set of machines in parallel using the subsequent set of administration resources.

Optimizing simultaneous startup or modification of inter-dependent machines with specified priorities

Generating secondary virtual machine seed image storage is provided. An input is received to deploy a primary virtual machine and a secondary virtual machine based on a golden virtual machine image. In response, the primary virtual machine from the golden virtual machine image on a primary data processing site and the secondary virtual machine from the golden virtual machine image on a secondary data processing site are deployed. Execution of the secondary virtual machine is suspended on the secondary data processing site. Using the golden virtual machine image, a seed image corresponding to the secondary virtual machine is generated that is up-to-date at that point in time in storage at the secondary data processing site to form the secondary virtual machine seed image storage. The secondary virtual machine seed image storage is enabled to receive state data updates from the primary virtual machine on the primary data processing site.

Embodiments of the present invention include methods, systems, and computer program products for packet forwarding. Aspects of the invention include receiving, from a source node, a first network queue in a set of network queues, wherein the first network queue includes one or more minimum network traffic performance requirements. A set of network paths is analyzed to determine a performance level for each network path and identify a first network path and a second network path with a performance level above the one or more minimum performance requirements of the first network queue. A determination is made that the first network path has a higher performance level than the second network path. Based at least in part on determining that the first network path has a higher performance level than the second network path, the first network queue is mapped to the first network path.

The method can include performing one or more sort or merge orders after one or more of each heuristic analysis, combining the one or more sort orders according to a weighting algorithm, generating a recovery dependency graph between each of the components of the computer system, and presenting the recovery dependency graph.

Increasing disaster resiliency in one aspect may comprise running an optimization algorithm that simultaneously solves for at least a first objective to increase a spread of a backup of virtual machines from a given site onto other sites in proportion to an amount of available space for backup at each site, a second objective to increase a number of backups at one or more of the other sites with low probability of system crash while reducing backups at one or more of the other sites with higher probability of system crash, and a third objective to minimize a violation of recovery time objectives of the virtual machines during recovery. One or more backup sites and one or more recovery sites in an event the given site crashes may be determined based on a solution of the optimization algorithm.

A mechanism is provided for disaster recovery of managed systems. Responsive to an identification of a virtual machine recovery condition occurring at a first node site, one or more virtual machines to be recovered to a second site node are identified. Further responsive to the identification of the virtual machine recovery condition occurring at the first node site and responsive to the identification of the one or more virtual machines to be recovered, at least some of records/metadata state data associated with the one or more virtual machines are transmitted to the second site node.

Aspects include: duplicating, in real-time at time T, first instance of computer resources of first server into second instance of computer resources of second server, the first instance of computer resources having first instance of operating systems, first instance of applications and first instance of data and the second instance of computer resources having second instance of operating systems, second instance of applications and second instance of data, running assessment and remediation on the second instance of operating systems and applications of the second server, merging the second instance of data of the second server with the first instance of data of the first server, and swapping the identities of the first instance of computer resources of the first server and the second instance of computer resources of the second server.

Methods and systems for assessing and remediating online servers with minimal impact

Restarting virtual machines is provided. Each server in a plurality of servers is monitored within a client virtual machine host environment via a network. In response to determining that a server failed in the plurality of servers within the client virtual machine host environment, a list of virtual machines that were executing in the failed server is retrieved. A set of virtual machine dependency groups for virtual machines in the list of virtual machines is retrieved based on properties corresponding to each respective virtual machine in the list of virtual machines. The set of virtual machine dependency groups is restarted in parallel on a failover server of an alternate virtual machine host environment via the network.
