An electrocardiogram (ECG) device includes a processor (), a memory () coupled to the processor and an interface () configured to generate an edit window and configured to permit user input in the edit window. A type ahead module () is stored in the memory and is responsive to input entered in the edit window. The type ahead module is configured to predict a next word, phrase, interpretation code or category being input by a user based on a subset of alphanumeric key strokes and a context probability associated with a list of possible ECG entries. A report review and edit module () may also be stored in the memory. The report review and edit module is configured to update a severity of an ECG report based upon current ECG interpretation statements and rules in accordance with an access or edit operation by an operator.

ECG features for type ahead editing and automatic update for report interpretation

Various embodiments of the present disclosure encompass an ECG control network of ECG test controller () and ECG context controller (). The ECG test controller () control a recording of an ECG test. The ECG context controller () control a synchronization of the recording of the ECG test by the ECG test controller () with a recording of a video clip illustrative of a clinical context of the ECG test and/or a recording of an audio clip informative of a clinical context of the ECG test. The ECG context controller () further control a simultaneous presentation of a display of the recording of the ECG test with of a playing of the video clip contextually interpretative of the ECG test and/or a playing of the audio clip contextually interpretative of the ECG test.

Clinical contextual electrocardiogram monitoring

A diagnostic electrocardiogram system employing an electrode lead system () for generating one or more electrode signals indicative of electrical activity of a subject heart (). The diagnostic electrocardiogram system further employs a diagnostic electrocardiograph () coupled to the electrode lead system () for communicating (e.g., listing, displaying and/or printing a subject electrocardiogram () and one more diagnostic electrocardiograms () designated as a morphology match to the subject electrocardiogram (). The subject electrocardiogram () includes one or more interpretations of ECG features derived from tire electrical activity of the subject heart () as indicated by tire electrode signal(s) (e.g., an algorithmic interpretation and/or an electrocardiographer interpretation of the subject electrocardiogram ()). The diagnostic electrocardiogram(s) includes one or more diagnoses of ECG features derived from recorded electrical activity of diagnosed heart(s) () (e.g., an algorithmic diagnosis and/or an electrocardiographer diagnosis of the diagnostic electrocardiogram(s) ()).

ECG training and skill enhancement

In various embodiments, a first classification assigned to a periodic component of an electrical waveform that represents electrical activity in a patient's heart may be identified. A corresponding periodic component of a hemodynamic waveform that represents hemodynamic activity in the patient's cardiovascular system may be analyzed. The corresponding periodic component may be causally related to the periodic component of the electrical waveform. Based on the analysis, the previously-assigned classification may be assigned to the corresponding periodic component of the hemodynamic waveform in response to a determination, based on the analyzing, that the previously-assigned classification also applies to the corresponding periodic component. In a database of hemodynamic templates, a hemodynamic template associated with the previously-assigned classification may be updated to include one or more features of the corresponding periodic component of the hemodynamic waveform.

Template-based analysis and classification of cardiovascular waveforms

An automated age detection system employing a patient monitoring lead assembly and a patent monitoring device. In operation, the patient monitoring lead assembly conducts electrical activity of a heart of a patient to the patient monitoring device. In response thereto, the patient monitoring device classifying the patient as an adult patient or a pediatric patient as a function of electrocardiogram feature(s) derived from electrocardiogram measurement(s) of the electrical heart activity. The patient monitoring device may further estimate the age as a function of electrocardiogram feature(s). The classification facilitates an appropriate application of an adult analysis or a pediatric analysis of the electrical heart activity.

Automated detection of patient age by ECG

In various embodiments, a first classification assigned to a periodic component of an electrical waveform that represents electrical activity in a patient's heart may be identified (). A corresponding periodic component of a hemodynamic waveform that represents hemodynamic activity in the patient's cardiovascular system may be analyzed (). The corresponding periodic component may be causally related to the periodic component of the electrical waveform. An electrocardiogram diagnostic system () having a non-athletic ECG diagnostic mode and an athletic ECG diagnostic mode. The electrocardiogram diagnostic system () employs an electrocardiogram wave controller () and an electrocardiogram diagnostic controller (). In operation, the electrocardiogram wave controller () generates an ECG wave responsive to one or more electrode signals. In response thereto, the electrocardiogram diagnostic controller () classifies the ECG wave as either a non-athletic ECG wave or an athletic ECG wave, interprets a non-athletic classified ECG wave based on non-athletic ECG diagnostic criteria as either a normal non-athletic ECG wave or an abnormal non-athletic ECG wave, and interprets an athletic classified ECG wave based on athletic ECG diagnostic criteria as either a normal athletic ECG wave or an abnormal athletic ECG wave.

Automatic classification/intepretation of ECG waves for non-athletes/athletes

An ECG controller for an ECG device is connectable to a base ECG lead system (e.g., a 12-lead system) whereby the ECG controller implements an ECG waveform morphology based and ECG lead redundancy based detection and classification of any cable interchange (e.g., a limb cable interchange or a precordial cable interchange) between the ECG controller and the base ECG lead system. Alternatively, the ECG controller is further connectable to a sub-base ECG lead system (e.g., a limb only-lead system or a limited precordial-lead system) whereby the ECG controller implements an ECG waveform morphology based detection and classification of any cable interchange (e.g., a limb cable interchange or a precordial cable interchange) between the electrode interface and the sub-base ECG lead system.

Automatic detection/classification of ECG cable interchange for different ECG lead systems

A medical imaging system employs a transesophageal probe () including an ultrasound transducer () for scanning a patient's heart and atrial electrode(s) () for generating atrial electrocardiogram signal(s) predominately indicative of electrical activity of atrium chambers of the patient's heart. The medical imaging system further employs ventricular electrode(s) () for generating ventricular electrocardiogram signal(s) predominately indicative of electrical activity of ventricle chambers of the patient's heart. The medical imaging system further employs an electrocardiogram machine () for generating an electrocardiogram waveform based on the indicated electrical activities of the patient's heart, and for generating a cardiac gating signal representative of a cyclical cardiac phase period of the electrocardiogram waveform. The medical imaging system further employs an ultrasound machine () for reconstructing an ultrasound image of the patient's heart encompassing a time segment or an entirety of the cyclical cardiac phase period.

Esophageal electrocardiogram for transesophageal echocardiography

When detecting ischemia and/or myocardial infarction in a subject, electrocardiogram (ECG) segments are analyzed for elevated ST segments indicative of ischemia and/or infarction. To mitigate false positive alerts, an ECG segment comprising an elevated ST segment that triggers an alert is presented to a clinician for verification as being indicative of ischemia or infarction, or as being attributable to a confounding condition not indicative of ischemia or infarction. Clinician feedback is used to adjust an elevated ST segment detection algorithm to improve accuracy and mitigate false positive alerts.

A system for electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation includes a processor and memory coupled to the processor. A rendering module is stored in the memory and is configured to receive input from an ECG and correlate interpretation statements with ECG measurements responsible for the interpretation statements in the ECG. An interface is configured to permit user selection of at least one interpretation statement in a display, the display being configured to render visual indications of the ECG measurements on digitally rendered waveforms of the ECG.

Diagnostic representation and interpretation of ECG leads on a digital display

A medical display system () and method display physiological signals. A physiological signal of a patient () is received, the physiological signal spanning a period of time. Signal quality of the physiological signal over the period of time is determined. An ECG signal () is displayed using a compressed time scale and the determined signal quality ()over time is displayed adjacent to the displayed physiological signal.

Method and display for long term physiological signal quality indication

A diagnostic ECG system analyzes lead traces for evidence of ST elevation in the lead signals. The pattern of ST elevation in leads having predetermined vantage points to the electrical activity of the heart and, in some instances, the presence of ST depression in certain other leads, identifies a specific coronary artery or branch as the culprit coronary artery for an acute ischemic event. ECG measurements which are associated with the identity of specific arterial occlusion locations are calculated and used to form a classifier of the probability of occlusion at different locations. The location identified as having the highest probability is indicated to a user as the most likely occlusion location.

An ECG monitoring system continuously monitors a patient's ECG waveform and periodically identifies the patient's QT interval. QT interval values are averaged over time and a corrected interval value QTc and a change in QTc relative to a baseline, dQTc, are periodically produced. An alarm is responsive to updated QT interval values and issues an alarm whenever a selected QT value exceeds an alarm limit. The periodically produced QT interval values are stored and a trend display may be produced showing changes in the QT interval information over different periods of time. The trend display may selectively display the trend information either graphically or in tabular form.

The segments of an anatomically corresponding bull's eye graph familiar to echocardiologists is annotated by coloring those segments for which ECG data indicates the presence of myocardial infarction injury. In an illustrated example, segments are colored with a second color when the ECG data corresponding to those segments are indicated as being the site of a coronary occlusion. The segments of the bull's eye graph may be colored in a third color with the results of a diagnostic imaging exam, such as by coloring segments exhibiting wall motion abnormalities with a third color.
