A moving bed heat exchanger () includes a vessel having an upper portion (), a lower portion () with a floor () including a discharge opening therein, and an intermediate portion (). The vessel directs a gravity flow of hot ash particles () received thereby from the upper portion () through the intermediate portion () to the floor () of the lower portion () of the vessel, where the hot ash particles () are collected. Tubes in the intermediate portion () of the vessel direct a flow of working fluid in a direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of the gravity flow of the hot ash particles () through the intermediate portion () of the vessel such that heat from the hot ash particles () is transferred to the working fluid thereby cooling the hot ash particles ().

Moving bed heat exchanger for circulating fluidized bed boiler

A technique for cooling furnace walls in a multi-component working fluid power generation system is disclosed. In a first embodiment, the technique involves removing process heat from a furnace having an inner tubular wall and an outer tubular wall. In a second embodiment, the technique involves removing process heat from a furnace system utilizing a fluid combiner. In a third embodiment, the technique involves removing process heat from a furnace having tubular walls formed of a plurality of fluid tubes.

Technique for cooling furnace walls in a multi-component working fluid power generation system

A waste heat recovery system includes a chamber. A gas inlet and gas outlet direct the flow of hot gas from a waste heat source to and from the chamber. A working fluid inlet port and working fluid outlet port direct the flow of multicomponent working fluid to and from the chamber. A plurality of heating surfaces are disposed within the chamber. The heating surfaces are formed of tubes which transport the flow of multicomponent working fluid from the inlet port to the outlet port such that the flow of the hot gas from the gas inlet to the gas outlet transfers heat from the hot gas to the flow of multicomponent working fluid.

Waste heat recovery technique

The water flow circuit for a heat recovery steam generator is a hybrid system which combines a circulating drum type circuit and a once-through circuit. A low pressure evaporator is designed for natural or forced circulation and a high pressure evaporator is designed for once-through flow. Orifices may be located in the inlet of the evaporator tubes for flow stability and an intermediate header between the evaporator and high pressure superheater improves stability, minimizes orifice pressure drop and equalizes pressure losses between evaporator tubes.

Heat recovery steam generator

The water flow circuit for a heat recovery steam generator includes both a low pressure circuit and a high pressure circuit. Both circuits are designed for once-through flow and both include evaporators with rifled tubing. A pressure equalizing header may be located between the evaporator and superheater and orifices may be located at the inlet to the evaporator for flow stability.

A syngas cooler apparatus includes an elongated generally cylindrical pressure vessel having an axial extremity that is a top end during normal operation of the cooler and an axial extremity that is a bottom end during normal operation of the cooler. A laterally extending support member extends within the pressure vessel proximate to the top end and front, back, and two side walls define at least one flow channel in the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel has an inlet and an outlet communicating with the flow channel. A pendant heat exchanger surface comprising a plurality of loops is disposed in the flow channel. Each of the loops is formed from tubing and the major portion of the entire axial extent of the tubing are rectilinear axial sections that are disposed with the axes thereof substantially in a vertical plan during normal operation. The pendant is disposed in the flow channel intermediate the inlet and the outlet and is supported solely from the laterally extending support member.

The essential components of a utility boiler utilizing a fluidized bed combustor are disclosed in sufficient detail to depict top suspension of the waterwalls enclosing the freeboard of the bed, support of the fluidized bed from ground level, and an expansible junction in the waterwalls to accommodate vertical movement due to thermal changes.

A fluidized bed steam generator with a bottom supported furnace wall structure (14) and a top supported gas pass structure (22). A gas tight expansion joint (26) joins the two structures. Convection heating surface (74,76) is supported (80) within the gas pass below the expansion joint, whereby an expansion joint of relatively low temperature design may be used.

A hot support bracket for supporting an in-bed heat exchanger of a fluidized bed furnace is comprised of a plurality of plates having openings or cut-outs along and intersecting at least one edge at each tube support location. Adjacent plates may be interconnected for stability. The hot support bracket is coupled to the top and bottom heat exchanger tube supported thereby with the resulting assembly slidably engaging a wear channel which supports the support bracket and to which the mechanical load of the in-bed heat exchanger is transferred.

A heat exchanger is mounted in the upper portion of a fluidized combusting bed for controlling the temperature of the bed. The supported heat exchanger may be fed by or be a part of water-cooled tubes formed into support pillars extending up from the water-cooled plate by which the combusting bed is supported.

Support for in-bed heat exchanger

A fluidized bed furnace (10) is provided having a perforate grate (9) within a housing which supports a bed of particulate material including some combustibles. The grate is divided into a plurality of segments (E2-E6, SH1-SH5, RH1-RH5), with the airflow to each segment being independently controlled. Some of the segments have evaporating surface imbedded in the particulate material above them, while other segments are below superheater surface or reheater surface. Some of the segments (E1, E7) have no surface above them, and there are ignitor combustors (32, 34) directed to fire into the segments, for fast startup of the furnace without causing damage to any heating surface.

A combined cycle power plant having a steam generator and a gas turbine which makes use of a high temperature liquid couplant, or heat exchange arrangement, and a low temperature liquid couplant, or heat exchange arrangement, for maximizing use of the heat available in the power plant. The high temperature liquid couplant extracts heat from the gases leaving a coal gasifier, and is used in (1) a high temperature air heater for the gasifier, and (2) a high temperature fuel preheater of a steam generator. The low temperature liquid couplant extracts heat from the exhaust gases of the steam generator, and is used as (1) preheat for the high temperature liquid couplant, (2) low temperature air preheater for the gasifier, (3) a booster fan inlet heater, and (4) a low temperature fuel preheater for the steam generator.

Method of low temperature heat utilization for atmospheric pressure coal

A fluidized bed for the burning of pulverized fuel having a specific waterwall arrangement that comprises a structurally reinforced framework of wall tubes. The wall tubes are reversely bent from opposite sides and then bonded together to form tie rods that extend across the bed to support the lateral walls thereof.
