The magnet arrangement and resulting rotating sputtering magnetron design of an embodiment provides magnetic flux density and distribution to penetrate thick production ferrous targets. Further, the magnetic field shape improves target life by more uniformly removing target material.

Rotating sputtering magnetron

The method includes placing a vessel containing a solution having magnetized substances into a magnetic device. The solution is then incubated in the device for a period of time sufficient to allow the magnetized substances to migrate radially toward the interior wall of the vessel, and a sample of the solution removed from the center of the vessel would contain non-magnetized particles. The magnetic device is made of four polar magnets and a plurality of interpolar magnets disposed therebetween. The interpolar magnets are positioned to progressively rotate towards the orientation of the four polar magnets creating an even flux within the solution thereby causing the radial movement of the magnetized substances toward the inner wall of the surrounding magnets.

Method for separating magnetized substances from a solution

The magnetic pole device of the present invention has four polar magnets and any number of interpolar magnets adjacent to and in between said polar magnets. The interpolar magnets are positioned to progressively rotate towards the orientation of the four polar magnets. Such a magnetic device would create an even flux within a liquid sample and cause the radial movement of magnetized particles toward the inner wall of the surrounding magnets.

Magnetic cell separation device

A combination of magnets provides a substantially uniform external magnetic field, in which a plate shaped magnet generates an external magnetic field and a frame shaped magnet generates another external magnetic field. The frame and plate shaped magnets are disposed proximate each other to provide, through the combination of their external magnetic fields, the substantially uniform external magnetic field in a plane disposed substantially parallel to the plate and frame shaped magnets. The size, shape and relative position of the magnets combine to produce an external magnetic field having a highly uniform magnetic field orientation over a wider area of a plane disposed proximate the magnets than heretofore available.

Combination of magnets for generating a uniform external magnetic field

An improved magnetic decoupler with a magnetic field shape, strength and gradient optimized for releasing security tags, such as an antitheft device of the type described above. Due to the structure of the magnetic decoupler, it contains less ferrous material than prior art decouplers heretofore employed. Reduction in size of the magnetic decoupler, along with improved magnetic strength, derive from the magnet assembly including magnets arranged with orientations that increase axial magnetic field gradient by superposition of the magnetic fields of each magnet.

Magnetic decoupler

An improved magnetic decoupler with a magnetic field shape, strength and gradient optimized for releasing security tags, such as an antitheft device of the type described above. Due to the structure of the magnetic decoupler, it contains less ferrous material than prior art decouplers heretofore employed. Reduction in size of the magnetic decoupler, along with improved magnetic strength, derive from the magnet assembly including magnets arranged with orientations in quadrature to increase axial magnetic field gradient within the decoupler cavity by superposition of the magnetic fields of each magnet.

A dipole permanent magnet structure having a rectangular gap about a longitudinal axis, in which tapered pole pieces form opposing sides of the rectangular gap to permit establishing a magnetic field in the gap. Permanent magnets having a rectangular shape are coupled to the rear, or base, of each pole piece, and have a magnetic field oriented in the same direction as the pole pieces, perpendicular to longitudinal axis, thereby establishing a magnetic field between the pole pieces. Additional permanent magnets, including a pair of blocking magnets, are coupled to the aforementioned permanent magnets to form a magnetic circuit. The orientation of the magnetic field of each permanent magnet is generally aligned in the direction of the lines of flux in the magnetic circuit to maximize the flux density within the air gap created by formation of the permanent magnets. Moreover, the pair of blocking magnets each form an opposing side of the rectangular gap adjacent to the pole pieces to prevent fringing. The pole pieces and blocking magnets are tapered along the longitudinal axis such that the rectangular gap narrows from the proximate end to the distal end of the gap. The structure is thus capable of generating a magnetic field having a linear range of flux densities from a relatively low flux density to a flux density greater than the residual flux density of the magnet material. Indeed, the gap flux density is limited only by the saturation flux density of the pole pieces. Thus, the permanent magnets can be made of magnet material having high coercivity and high saturation magnetization level. An embodiment of the magnet structure is capable of generating a magnetic field in the air gap having a flux density range of 0.5 Tesla or less to 2.0 Tesla or more.

Single dipole permanent magnet structure with linear gradient magnetic

A dipole permanent magnet structure for use in a sputtering magnetron in which a central magnet structure having a magnetic field orientation parallel to a base plate, and upon which the central magnet is mounted, is placed adjacent to a first salient magnet having a magnetic field orientation orthogonal to the magnetic field orientation of the central magnet. A second salient magnet, located adjacent to the central magnet structure, has a magnetic field orientation orthogonal to the magnetic field orientation of the central magnet, but opposite polarity of the first salient magnet. The structure provides increased magnetic field strength and intensity along the working face of the sputtering magnetron to saturate and penetrate a target material inserted into the vacuum chamber of a sputtering system to facilitate the sputtering process.
