A locking mechanism (10) for use with an electrical connector assembly (80). The locking mechanism (10) includes a latch support (60) having a D-slot washer (52) therein which is installed on a rotatable shaft (20). The rotatable shaft (20) is operable to engage a camming plate on a further electrical connector and thereby draw the assembly (80) into electrical engagement therewith. A stop flange (52b) of D-slot washer (52) is operable to limit the amount of rotational movement of the shaft (20) thereby preventing over-travel of the shaft. Additionally, the locking mechanism includes a ball plunger (56) for interfacing with the stop flange (52b) thereby providing a detent for the D-slot washer (52) and shaft (20). Over torque and over-travel of the shaft (20) are prevented, and the ball plunger (56) prevents inadvertent rotation of the shaft (20).

Latch detent/stop mechanism for electrical connectors

A connector system for interfacing two or more current-containing substrates includes a housing to which one of the substrates is mounted, a securing barrel assembled to the housing and extended from an actuating means through apertures within the substrates. A pair of rollers is secured to the leading end of the securing barrel. Upon actuating the securing barrel, the rollers are rotated about a roller support pin and along a camming surface on another substrate thereby cinching the substrates to each other.

Connector system with a roller latching mechanism

An environmentally sealed interconnect system (10) having a male connector housing (20) and a female connector housing (21). A plurality of spaced-apart contact locator ribs (34) and contact mounting ribs (38) are formed in the male connector housing (20) and are received with a force fit in a corresponding plurality of spaced-apart cooperating sealing areas (45), (50) in the female connector housing (21). The ribs (34), (36) and sealing areas (45), (50) form a sealed interconnect system (10). A plurality of spaced-apart interposer contacts (26) are disposed in the interconnect system (10) secured therein by the ribs (34), (35). An O-ring sealant (31) is disposed about the periphery of the interconnect system (10) to provide an outer environmental seal for the interconnect system (10).

Interconnect system

An electrical connector for sealably mounting into a frame may be manufactured using known low cost, automated processes. Contact elements are sealingly encircled by and extend through an insulating body having a frame abutting surface. A separate shroud interfits with the body at an unsealed shroud junction. A continuous compressible sealing element disposed on a frame abutting surface circumscribes and sealingly isolates an area interior of the compressible sealing element from an area exterior of the compressible sealing element. The shroud junction is entirely within an area interior of the compressible sealing element.

Sealed land grid array connector

A process for manufacturing a housed metallic contact connector (1) for interconnecting electronic devices (17) comprising: (a) stamping from a conductive metal strip (7) a contact connector array (8), placing said contact connector array (8) into a mold, and injection molding directly around the contact connector array (8) a plastic to form an integral housing (4) directly around the stamped contact connector array (8). A plastic housed contact connector (1) forms part of the disclosed invention. Also forming part of this invention is a metallic array (8) with an aperture (11) to more efficiently bind plastic to the housing (4).

Micro-power connector

Printed wiring boards having low signal-to-ground ratios. Printed wiring boards described herein comprise a first and second sides, and a plurality of signal plated-through-holes extending from the first side to the second side of the printed wiring board. There is also provided a plurality of ground plated-through-holes extending from the first side to the second side of the printed wiring board, and a ground plane plated on a first side and in electrical communication with selected ones of the plurality of ground plated-through-holes and defining a signal-to-ground ratio for the printed wiring boards. Printed wiring boards described herein with plating patterns in accordance with the invention are versatile and ensure high electrical integrity by modifying the signal-to-ground ratio of the printed wiring boards and enabling higher density of contact pads.

Printed wiring boards having low signal-to-ground ratios

An electrical contact having a center leg and a pair of beams connected to the center leg. Each beam has a metal-coated end which may mate and unmate with electrical interfaces in a wiping movement. A plurality of electrical contacts are received in a plurality of spaced-apart retention openings in a contact module in a manner compatible with automatic insertion.

Duplex plated epsilon compliant beam contact and interposer

A hinged cover for an electrical socket having a top plate fixed relative the socket's housing and a cover plate pivotally attached to the top plate for removably retaining an electronic package in electrical engagement with contacts within the housing by compressing the electronic package against the contacts. The top plate is fixed relative to the housing of the socket and has integrally formed hinge members and first latch portions. The cover plate is pivotally movable between an open position and a closed position. The cover plate has an integrally formed complementary hinge member that is receivable about the hinge member and a second latch portion integrally formed with the cover plate and disconnectably engageable with the first latch portion to hold the cover in the closed position, thereby enabling the cover plate to exert the necessary force against the electronic package.

Hinged cover for an electrical socket

Connectors systems for electrically interfacing contacts to surfaces. The connectors (10) comprise a printed wiring board (30) adapted to receive a connector element (80) which communicates data from an outside source to a device (140) , a housing (20) for mounting the printed wiring board (30), and a securing barrel (120) interfaceable through the printed wiring board and further matable to a mating surface (240) in the device (140) for securing the printed wiring board (30) to a substrate (150) such that the printed wiring board makes effective electrical contact with the substrate (150). Connector systems described and claimed herein are matable and unmatable to an electronic, diagnostic, or other analytical device which utilizes data bussed through the device through the connector. Thus, these connectors (10) are versatile and highly reliable for achieving high integrity electrical interface in the device (140) utilizing the data signals. The connector system is adapted to be mated with zero insertion force required during initial placement and engagement at the contact interface, after which a rugged manually activated camming system provides substantial mechanical advantages to establish assured contact normal force in a high density mating contact array, and which is easily unmated.

Substrate interfacing electrical connector system

Electrical contacts adapted to electrically mate with two electronic components having high cycle life. The contacts comprise a first interface means for electrically mating with a planar mating face of a first such electronic component and a second interface means for electrically mating with, a planar face of a second such electronic component. The contacts also preferably comprise connecting means for resiliently connecting said first and second interface means and mating resistance means for providing a first amount of mating resistance to said first interface means and a second amount of mating resistance to said second interface means.

Interposer connector and contact element therefore

A connector assembly (100) for an array of discrete microcoaxial wires (10) includes a housing (102) with signal terminals (140) disposed therein having intermediate sections (154) exposed along a rearward housing section (114) for eventual solder termination to inner conductor ends (20) of the wires. The signal terminals of each row are initially joined to a respective carrier strip (146) until after soldering. A ground plate (50) is insertable into a medial slot (106) of the housing and includes an array of semicylindrical nests (56) formed to receive portions of the microcoaxial wires thereinto for soldering of ground ferrules (30) therearound directly to the nests (56) prior to insertion of the ground plate into the housing, thereby defining a wire-carrying subassembly (90). When the ground plate (50) is inserted into the housing (102), the stripped inner conductors (20) are positioned at termination sites (144) of the signal terminals (140) for soldering.

Microcoaxial cable connector

An electrical contact (26) for joining a ground wire (5) of a coaxial cable (1) to an electrical connector comprises, a first ring (27) assembled concentrically over a coaxial cable (1), a conductive second ring (28) assembled over the first ring (27) and clamped against a ground wire (5) of the cable (1), and the second ring (28) being joined conductively to a conductive ground contact (10) of the connector.
