Location-based speech recognition for preparation of electronic tax return

A method for obtaining financial data for use in a financial return of a tax paying entity, including: obtaining credentials of the tax paying entity; determining, by a computer processor, that the financial data is available for download from a data provider; sending a first text message to a mobile device of the tax paying entity indicating that the financial data is available for download; receiving, from the mobile device, a second text message requesting to import the financial data into the financial return; sending, to the data provider, a request to download the financial data, where the request includes the credentials; downloading, after sending the request, the financial data into a data repository; and sending, after downloading the financial data, the financial data to a tax preparation application, where the financial data is imported by the tax preparation application into the financial return.

Mobile data import for a financial return

A method for populating tax forms, including: aggregating a set of employer identification numbers (EINs) in a repository; receiving, from a tax preparation application, a first request for tax data of a first user, where the first request includes a first name of a first employer; matching, by a computer processor, the first name of the first employer to a first EIN of the set of EINs, where the first EIN corresponds to a first government agency; identifying a first payroll provider of the first employer based on the first EIN; importing, by the computer processor, the tax data from the first payroll provider; and populating a first tax form of the first user with the tax data and the first EIN.

Populating tax data using an employer identification number

Collecting tax return data and integrating collected tax return data into a future electronic tax return. A computer in communication with a tax authority stores first year electronic tax return data of a user that prepared the tax return with a tax preparation application for that year. The computer sends a first electronic message to the user's communication device asking whether data in the first year tax return changed or to verify prior data. The user sends a response using the communication device, and verified and changed data in the response may be stored for inclusion in an electronic tax return of a second year. The second year tax return may be partially prepared utilizing the user's response. When the tax preparation application for the second year is launched, the electronic tax return for the second year is already partially completed.

Collecting tax return data and integrating collected tax return data into a future electronic tax return. A computer in communication with a tax authority stores first year electronic tax return data of a user that prepared the tax return with a tax preparation application for that year. The computer sends a first electronic message such as an e-mail or text message to a communication device of the user asking whether data in the first year tax return has changed or to verify prior data. The user sends a response to the message using the communication device. Verified and changed data in the response may be stored for inclusion in an electronic tax return of the following or second year. The second year tax return may also be partially prepared utilizing the response from the user. Thus, when the user launches the tax preparation application for the second year, the electronic tax return for the second year is already partially completed to give the user a head start on preparing that electronic tax return.
