Materials such as poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and lithium cobalt (III) oxide (LCO) are recovered and recycled from cathode films isolated from end-of-life batteries, including lithium-ion batteries. Cathode films are immersed in solution including N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidine (NMP), a tetrahydrofuran (THF):NMP mixture, or a THF:DMF mixture. The solution is able to dissolve PVDF, which can then be separated from LCO and a conductive substrate component of the cathode films via alumina column separation. A PVDF product can be precipitated and recovered, while the LCO and conductive substrate can be recovered directly from the alumina column separator. Both the PVDF and LCO are of suitable quality for use in new cathode films. Such recovery is shown to be achievable even at low solid to liquid ratio during the dissolution process. Thus, economically feasible solvent-based recycling of battery cathodes is enabled to prolong the service life of cathode materials and reduce polymeric waste.

Methods for recovering and reusing polymeric binders from composite cathode films

An apparatus for the treatment of a liquid that includes a chamber having at least one inner surface, the chamber adapted for passage of a fluid therethrough. The chamber is at least 80 percent enclosed. The apparatus also includes an optional ultraviolet-transmissive tube disposed within the chamber and also adapted for the passage of the liquid therethrough. The apparatus further includes an ultraviolet lamp disposed within the chamber and, optionally, within the ultraviolet-transmissive tube. A reflective material is interposed between the chamber and the transmissive tube. The reflective material is adapted so as to reflect at least a portion of light emitted by the ultraviolet lamp, wherein the reflective material is at least 80 percent reflective.

A reversibly attachable muscle trainer includes a multi-arm structure with motion sensors and force generators for exercising opposing muscles of a person moving an implement so as to maintain an ideal movement. When attached to the implement, the muscle trainer trains the opposing muscles to consistently move the implement in an ideal way. While the person moves the implement with the muscle trainer attached, a processor receives signals from the motion sensors and determines differences between the actual implement motion and an ideal implement motion. The difference indicates a dominating force direction in which the dominating muscles urge the implement. The processor activates the force generators to apply external forces to the implement to urge the implement in various types of training force directions.

Multi-rotor apparatus and method for motion sculpting

An apparatus for the treatment of a liquid comprising includes a chamber having at least one inner surface. The chamber is at least 80 percent enclosed. The apparatus also includes an ultraviolet (UV) transmissive tube and the UV transmissive tube disposed within the chamber and adapted for the passage of the liquid therethrough. The apparatus further includes an UV lamp and the UV lamp being disposed within the UV transmissive tube. A reflective material is interspersed between the chamber and the transmissive tube, and the reflective material is adapted so as to reflect at least a portion of light emitted by the UV lamp. Additionally, the reflective material is at least 80 percent reflective.

The invention is directed to a muscle trainer and methods for exercising opposing muscles of a person moving an implement. If the opposing muscles were of appropriate strength, the opposing muscles would apply forces in opposite directions to the implement to assist in maintaining an ideal movement of the implement. The methods train the opposing muscles to consistently move the implement in an ideal way to accomplish the function. The methods include: (a) moving the muscle trainer through an actual motion; (b) determining a difference between the actual motion and an ideal motion, the difference indicating a dominating force direction in which the dominating muscles urge the muscle trainer; (c) applying an external force to the muscle trainer to urge the muscle trainer in the dominating force direction; and (d) using the non-dominating muscles to urge the muscle trainer against the external force to thereby exercise the non-dominating muscles.

Muscle training apparatus and method

The invention is directed to a muscle trainer and methods for exercising a weaker of two sets of opposing muscles of a person moving an implement, such as a golf club, wherein, if the two sets of opposing muscles were of appropriate strength, the two sets of opposing muscles would desirably apply forces in opposite directions to the implement to assist in maintaining an ideal movement of the implement. In various embodiments, the invention provides methods for training the opposing sets of muscles to consistently move the implement in an ideal way to accomplish a useful or recreational function. The methods include: (a) moving the muscle trainer through an actual motion; (b) determining a difference between the actual motion and an ideal motion, where the difference indicates a dominating force direction in which the muscle trainer is being urged by the stronger or dominating set of muscles; (c) applying an external force to the muscle trainer to urge the muscle trainer in the dominating force direction; and (d) using the weaker or non-dominating set of muscles to urge the muscle trainer against the external force to thereby exercise the non-dominating set of muscles.

Systems and methods for processing a plurality of input signals are provided. A plurality of selection signals are received. Each of the plurality of selection signals is representative of one of a plurality of input signal characteristics. Each of the input signal characteristics is associated with one of the plurality of input signals. The plurality of input signals are converted into at least one digital waveform. A plurality of signal values may be extracted from the at least one digital waveform based on the plurality of input signal characteristics. An output signal may be generated based on each of the plurality of signal values.

System and method for processing signals from multiple input devices

The invention is directed to a muscle trainer for exercising opposing muscles of a person moving an implement, such as a golf club, wherein, if the opposing muscles were of appropriate strength, the opposing muscles would desirably apply forces in opposite directions to the implement to assist in maintaining an ideal movement of the implement. The contemplated muscle trainer of this invention includes a body and a force generator positioned at a prescribed location on the body for urging the body in a direction away from a force direction which a weaker set of the opposing muscles would normally apply to the implement in the movement of the implement by the person.

The invention is directed to a muscle trainer and method for exercising a weaker of two opposing muscle groups of a person swinging an implement, such as a golf club, wherein, if the two opposing muscle groups were of appropriate strength, the two muscle groups would desirably apply forces in opposite directions to the implement to assist in maintaining the implement in an ideal club shaft plane. The contemplated muscle trainer of this invention includes a body having a grip surface located thereon, and a force generator positioned at a prescribed location on the body, which is spaced from the grip surface, for urging the prescribed location of the body in a direction away from a force direction which the weaker muscle would normally apply to the implement in the swinging thereof by the person. The invention further contemplates a method exercising at least a dominated muscle of two opposing muscles typically used by the golfer when attempting to swing a golf club in an ideal club shaft plane, where the dominated muscle applies a first swing force to the golf club in a non-dominating swing force direction, and a dominating muscle applies a second swing force in a dominating swing force direction to the golf club which is opposite the direction, and exceeds the force, of the non-dominating swing force.

An interference resistant infrared receiver and extension system is disclosed. A receiver in accordance with the present invention comprises at least one infrared photodetector configured to detect impinging infrared light of a desired wavelength, an amplifier, coupled to the at least one infrared photodetector, for amplifying an electrical signal generated by the at least one infrared photodetector, and a bandpass filter, coupled to the at least one infrared photodetector, wherein the desired impinging infrared light passes through the bandpass filter before impinging on the at least one infrared photodetector, wherein the bandpass filter is configured to pass desired impinging infrared light and block undesired impinging wavelengths of light.

Interference resistant infrared extension system

An apparatus for carrying a target object having a plurality of surfaces, within a pulsed light sterilization chamber including a treatment zone within which pulsed sterilizing light is emitted, comprises: a transmissive carrier within the treatment zone detachably coupled to the target object, the transmissive carrier having a transmissivity of at least about 10% to light within the 250 to 350 nm wavelength range; and moving means coupled to the transmissive carrier for moving the target object on the transmissive carrier through the treatment zone, the plurality of surfaces of the target object being sterilized by the pulsed sterilizing light in the treatment zone. A system for sterilizing a target object having a plurality of sides, comprises: a pulsed light sterilization chamber comprising a treatment zone and means for emitting pulsed sterilizing light within the treatment zone; a moving means; and a transmissive carrier within the treatment zone detachably coupled to the target object, and coupled to the moving means which moves the target object on the transmissive carrier through the treatment zone, the plurality of sides of the target object being sterilized by the pulsed sterilizing light through the treatment zone.
