Traps are disclosed for controlling flying insects such as wasps. The traps are pre-packaged with attracting liquid prior to sale, and then sealed with a peel-off film in a manner that prevents leakage prior to use. When the trap is about to be used, the peel-off film is removed to expose both a trap entry and a pivotable stand. A rain/sun shield is then mounted on the stand, preferably with the upper portion of the stand projecting through the shield to form part of a hanger.

Flying insect trap

A bait station for crawling insects includes a base and a cover fastened to the base. The base includes a bait cup bisected by a divider wall so that different baits may be offered to the insects. The cover has a roof that is spaced above and spans over the bait cup so that insects may crawl through doorways formed in the cover to access the bait in the bait cup. A support rib extends downwardly from the roof to engage the bait cup and divider wall to not only provide crush resistance and support for the roof but also to provide a bait retention feature. The support rib may also be configured to serve as a reservoir for water or other insect attractant.

A method for control of insects from the family Vespidae is disclosed. It has been discovered that (Z)-9-tricosene, (Z)-9-heneicosene and the saturated hydrocarbons tricosane and tridecane act as kairomones for the family Vespidae to locate its prey, the house fly. By incorporating these materials as attractants in a proteinaceous matrix having a delayed toxicant, control over colonies of Vespidae may be achieved.
