A gas insulated transmission line has an inner conductor supported by insulators including a fixed insulator and a movable insulator with each having recesses in their outer portion having recessed metallic inserts therein of like configuration. The fixed insulator has disposed within the insert a base of an interconnection strap that extends along the sheath and is welded thereto. An insulating standoff button is further provided on the exterior of the base of the interconnection strap and presses against the outer sheath. An insert of the movable insulator contains a roller assembly. Preferably the roller assembly includes a substantially cylindrical roller of a semi-rigid insulating material that has edges bearing against the outer sheath and conforming to the configuration of the outer sheath by reason of deformation under load.

A gas-insulated transmission line includes an outer sheath and an inner conductor disposed therein, which inner conductor is formed from two inner conductor sections electrically connected together. A contact shield surrounds and electrically shields the connection of the two inner conductor sections. Insulating supports spatially support the contact shield within the outer sheath, and the contact shield physically supports the inner conductor sections. The insulating supports thus support the inner conductor through the contact shield.

Insulating spacer design for a modular gas-insulated transmission line

An improved gas-insulated transmission line is disclosed in which the transmission line itself is constructed in a modular fashion from elements which are joined together, typically at the final installation location, to form the transmission line. The other sheath and the inner conductor can be fabricated separately, at different locations and by different manufacturers, and transmitted to the point of final assembly and installation. A backup ring, insulator support assembly, contact shield, and connection member are separately fabricated into a single modular member, which can by itself be subjected to the testing procedures normally undertaken at the factory. This modular member, after satisfactorily passing its acceptance test, can then be shipped to the installation site. The installation of the transmission line, and formation thereof, can then be performed by inserting the inner conductor into the connection member portion of the modular member, and the outer sheath segments can then be physically connected to the backup ring portion of the modular member to form the transmission line.

An improved metal-clad gas-type high-power circuit-breaker construction is provided involving two upstanding circuit-breaker assemblages electrically interconnected adjacent their upper ends, and connected into the series line transmission circuit, preferably, adjacent the mid-portions thereof to pressurized laterally-extending power-transmission lines. Improved structure is provided for simultaneously supporting the interrupting modules, or units up in the air interiorly of an outer grounded metallic casing structure, and, additionally, providing a high-pressure gas-conduit path to the pressurized insulating casing structure surrounding the circuit-breaker modules, and spaced inwardly from the outer grounded metallic casing structure. Improved means are provided for increasing the electrical power capable of being interrupted by such a structure, when desired, involving a series closing resistance, which is inserted into the circuit only during the closing operation of the interrupter. During the opening operation, the resistor is kept out of the electrical circuit and is not utilized. The invention is also applicable when high-voltage surges are not contemplated by utilizing a different type of circuit-interrupter unit within each interrupting assemblage, namely, for example, a single-break circuit-interrupter unit, involving only a separable pair of contacts and gas flow passing through one or both of said separable contacts, depending upon the rating of the breaker, to extinguish the arc. The invention moreover contemplates the arrangement of a pair of circuit-breaker assemblages disposed in generally-horizontal relationship, again the two circit-breaker assemblages constituting a single pole-unit, or one phase of a three-phase circuit-breaker structure. In such a horizontally-mounted arrangement, wherein instead of the two circuit-breaker assemblages extending up in the air, in this alternate embodiment of the invention, they are disposed relatively horizontally, with the connections again being made by, preferably, pressurized conductors, and, for example, the mechanism and gas-compressor equipment housing extending lengthwise, generally horizontally along one of the horizontally-arranged circuit-breaker assemblages of the structure.

A simplified-type of multi-phase compressed-gas circuit-interrupter installation is provided in which costly and complicated I-beam base structures are eliminated, and the low-pressure gas-reservoir tank is so used and located as to provide a lower main support for the circuit-breaker installation. In addition, the high-pressure gas-reservoir tank is so used and located in such a manner that its main supporting brackets become a main support for the circuit-breaker assembly. The construction is such that a simplified support is provided having the several component parts of the installation so arranged as to be readily accessible for servicing, and arranged together in a new combination for a resultant compact easily maintained arrangement.
