A floppy disk drive including a pivotally mounted disk pack storing a plurality of floppy diskettes, a driver mechanism for rotating any one of the diskettes into a retrievable position, a picker mechanism for moving the one diskette between the retrievable position and an operative position at which the diskette is rotatable on a spindle, and a position control circuit for controlling the position of a recording head across the one diskette being in the operative position and for compensating for expansion, contraction, and eccentric rotation of the one diskette. The floppy diskettes are stored bent in the disk pack, but in the operative position the one diskette that had been retrieved from the retrievable position is stored only partially in the disk pack and parallel to the plane of rotation. A microprocessor controls the entire disk drive.

Disk drive

A data processing system embodying the present invention includes a plurality of data processing stations. Each station includes a first communications interface connected to a common communication channel and a second communications interface for communicating with one or more associated controlled units. Each station also includes a processor and a memory; the processor and the interfaces being operatively connected to the memory, so that each may access the memory, and to a contention resolving circuit for resolving memory access conflicts. The system also includes a first controlled unit comprising a mass storage device and a controlled unit communications interface connected to the second communications interface of a first one of the plurality of processors; a second controlled unit comprising a keyboard for entering data and a first, single line, display for displaying data and a controlled unit communications interface connected to the second communications interface of a second of the plurality of processors; and a third controlled unit comprising a second, multi-line, display for displaying data and a controlled unit communications interface connected to the second communications interface of a third of a plurality of processors.

Word processing system employing a plurality of general purpose

A non-impact printing system in which a multi-wire head collects debris has an arrangement for cleaning the head with a brush by sweeping the head over the brush in a first direction and immediately sweeping the head back over the brush in the reverse direction, while simultaneously pulling the head away from the brush. Certain aspects of the preferred embodiment disclosed herein include inventive subject matter set forth in the copending application of Robert Burdett Taggart, Ser. No. 26,647, filed Apr. 3, 1979, entitled, 'Printing Apparatus Drive System'.
