A method of operating a marking device includes defining an initial condition wherein a cannula is in an extended position and a stylet is in a ready position in the extended cannula, and, starting from the initial condition with the cannula in the extended position, sequentially: effecting movement of the stylet from a ready position to an implant position, ejecting an imaging marker through a distal opening in a cannula distal end of the cannula, and then; effecting a simultaneous unitary retraction of the cannula and stylet after ejection of the imaging marker from the distal opening in the cannula distal end.

Marking device with retractable cannula

A biopsy marking apparatus for placing a radiopaque marker at the location of a percutaneous biopsy. The biopsy marking apparatus comprises an introducer in combination with a radiopaque marker. The introducer ejects the radiopaque marker at the location of the biopsy. The introducer is configured to completely eject the radiopaque marker and prevent it from being subsequently drawn into the introducer as the introducer is removed from the biopsied tissue mass. The radiopaque marker has enhanced radiopaque characteristics and enhanced non-migration characteristics.

Apparatus for the percutaneous marking of a lesion

A marking device according to one embodiment of the invention comprises a handle, a cannula having a cannula distal end and slidably mounted to the handle, and a stylet having a stylet distal end and slidably mounted to the handle in the cannula. The stylet distal end is spaced proximally of the cannula distal end to form a marker recess that receives an imaging marker. The marking device further comprises an actuator operably coupled to the cannula to effect retraction of the cannula into the handle following implantation of the imaging marker. The imaging marker can be implanted by advancing the stylet relative to the cannula to eject the imaging marker from the marker recess, or the cannula can be retracted relative to the stylet to expose the imaging marker.

A marking device includes a handle defining a hollow interior, and a delivery assembly slidably mounted to the handle. The delivery assembly includes a cannula, a stylet assembly, an imaging marker, and an actuator. The cannula has a cannula distal end with a marker recess. The imaging marker is disposed within the marker recess. The actuator is operably coupled to the delivery assembly and is operable to transition the delivery assembly through at least three configurations: a first configuration characterized in that the cannula is positioned in an extended position and the stylet assembly is positioned in a ready position; a second configuration characterized in that the cannula is positioned in the extended position and the stylet assembly is positioned in an implant position; and a third configuration characterized in that the cannula is positioned in the retracted cannula position and the stylet is retracted into the handle.

A subcutaneous marking apparatus for placement of an imaging marker at a predetermined site in a tissue mass comprises a handle having a front portion and a rear portion, a cannula, a stylet slidably received within the cannula, a trigger extending from the front portion of the handle and operably engaging the stylet, and an imaging marker disposed within a marker recess in a distal end of the cannula. A user can firmly grasp the marking apparatus in one hand and simultaneously actuate the trigger with a finger or a thumb of the same hand to move the stylet and thereby place the imaging marker at the predetermined site.

The distal end has a plurality of holes having an elongate shape disposed essentially in parallel with the axis of the catheter with smooth edges so blood cells are not damaged as they pass through the holes. A method for treating a patient. The method includes the steps of inserting a catheter in a vessel. Then there is the step of opening a port in the catheter disposed adjacent an orifice in the distal end of the catheter so blood can flow through the port and the orifice.

Method and apparatus for treating a patient

A perfusion cannula for treating a patient. The, cannula includes a hollow tube adapted for insertion into a vessel of the patient and adapted for fluid flow. The tube has a proximal end. The tube has a primary hole disposed in proximity to the proximal end for release of fluid from the tube and at least a first perfusion hole disposed in the tube wall for release of fluid from the tube. The cannula includes a widener extending from the outer surface of the tube and effectively extending the outer diameter of the tube. The inner diameter of the tube is smooth and continuous and has a circular, cross-section throughout. An echogenic medical needle is disclosed which comprises a tubular cannula body, a stylet received within the cannula body, and an echogenicity enhancement within the cannula for improved ultrasound imaging. Preferably, the echogenicity enhancement is on the stylet and comprises a series of annular grooves about the stylet.
