Provided are overprint varnish (OPV) compositions containing high viscosity essentially non-aqueous dispersions that include acrylic core/shell polymer particles in a non-aqueous solvent such as mineral oil. Also provided are methods of coating a substrate with an OPV containing the non-aqueous dispersions to improve the properties of the OPV when used to coat a substrate, such as improved rub resistance, resistance to yellowing, and desirable gloss values.

Overprint varnishes with non-aqueous dispersions

Solvent-based flexographic or rotogravure inks are formulated to provide good pin-holing performance at high-speed printing conditions by combining the ink ingredients such the Maron-Pierce MPF (Maximum Packing Fraction) of the resulting ink is below 42 volume percent at a shear of either 10 reciprocal seconds or 2100 reciprocal seconds or both.

High speed solvent-based flexographic/rotogravure printing inks

Formulations for solvent-based flexographic or rotogravure inks, which are capable high-quality, defect-free printing at high speeds, contain flexographic ink resins solutions and solvent mixtures which are designed to maintain a dynamic solubility parameter in the ink as the dry state is approached during the printing process. The inks described show extremely high quality printing at linear press speeds above 1800 fee per minute (ca 0.549 km/min).
