This invention relates to a method and apparatus for the analysis of pharmaceutical specimens by nondestructively obtaining the molecular data for a chemical component on the surface or within the matrix of a pharmaceutical specimen.

Method and apparatus for obtaining molecular data from a pharmaceutical specimen

The present invention provides a stable foodstuffs which contain a cholesterol lowering amount of a sterol or stanol ester, crystal fat inhibitors and emulsifiers. The foodstuffs, including salad dressings are stable even when refrigerated.

Stable salad dressings

A method for preparing sterol/stanol and sterol/stanol ester compositions with improved dispersibility is provided by co-melting the sterol/stanol and/or sterol/stanol ester with highly branched hydrocarbons and then grinding the resulting product. A method for preparing the compounds is also disclosed. The ground compound is suitable for formulating into orally administered products suitable for control of blood serum cholesterol.

Method for producing dispersible sterol and stanol compounds

The present invention provides a sterol, stanol or their corresponding acid ester in a form suitable for the manufacture of an oral dosage form. A method for producing the oral dosage form is also provided.

Sterol esters in tableted solid dosage forms

A method for preparing .beta.-sitosterol is disclosed which provides the sterol in a readily consumable form. The method includes the spray drying of the .beta.-sitosterol in a mixed micelle formulation. The product is provided in a convenient form that can be provided to food or drinks or incorporated into solid and suspension dosage forms.

Method for producing water dispersible sterol formulations

A method for preparing .beta.-sitosterol, oryzanol, esters of both of these compounds and related compounds are disclosed which provides the sterol in a readily consumable form. The method includes the spray drying of the .beta.-sitosterol in a mixed micelle formulation. The product is provided in a convenient form that can be provided to food or drinks or incorporated into solid and suspension dosage forms.

A physicochemically stable pharmaceutical matrix composition is provided comprising: a pharmaceutical active and a water insoluble aliphatic or fatty acid ester, preferably stearyl stearate; a taste mask carrier for pharmaceutical actives comprising a taste masking effective amount of an aliphatic or fatty acid ester; and a method for preparing a pharmaceutical matrix without the use of organic and/or volatile solvents comprising the steps of: melting an aliphatic or fatty acid ester; admixing at least one pharmaceutical active with the molten aliphatic or fatty acid ester; and solidifying the admixture to produce a pharmaceutical matrix composition. The matrix is composed of an aliphatic, or fatty acid, ester that has a low melting point (50.degree.-100.degree. C.) and the melt exhibits: low viscosity, recongeals rapidly when cooled, does not exhibit polymorphism, and has good mold release properties.
