A lighting assembly for a vehicle instrument panel includes a light guide supported within a light housing proximate to a light source. The light guide includes a top surface with a plurality of prisms for efficiently transmitting light toward a display and operator. The light guide may be coupled to a diffuser with a plurality of serrations that include a light reflecting surface for directing light from the light guide in a direction toward an operator.

Lighting assembly for display illumination

A light housing for propagating light therethrough is disclosed. The light housing includes a base surface, indented surfaces extending from and connected to the base surface, and roof portions extending from and connected to the base surface. The indented surfaces form openings for light emission through the openings. Each roof portion extends over one of the openings. An instrument cluster assembly for a motor vehicle including the light housing is also disclosed.

Light propagation and even distribution using air channels

A light guide assembly for an instrument display includes a light housing, a light source and a light guide. The light guide directs light from the light source through an opening in the light housing, and includes at least a first branch and a second branch. A diffuser is disposed above an opening in the light housing. The diffuser includes a bottom surface facing an interior of the light housing and a top surface facing opposite the bottom surface. A dimming feature is disposed on a portion of the top surface of the diffuser, such that the dimming feature reduces a brightness of the portion of the top surface thereby maintaining at least approximately a constant brightness across the diffuser.

Light guide assembly for display illumination

A gauge assembly which has a gauge surface including graphics representing a vehicle operating parameter. A pointer arm is provided which is made out of a light guide or light transmitting material. The pointer arm includes a step portion in an operative portion of the second bottom surface for reducing light received by said second surface adjacent the step portion and providing an overall even light throughout the operative illuminated viewing surface of the pointer arm.

Stepper pointer

A pointer arm for a gauge of a motor vehicle is provided. The pointer arm includes first and second light reflecting surfaces and an an arm portion extending from the first and second light reflecting surfaces. The pointer arm may be supported for rotation about an axis of rotation relative to a scale, and a shroud may be used to support the pointer arm. A cap may be supported on the pointer arm. The cap may include a pin extending into an opening within the pointer arm. The light reflecting surfaces are configured to propagate light around the opening and through the pointer arm.

Wing pointer illumination

An illuminated pointer assembly for a gauge scale having an outer periphery includes a pointer that moves about a periphery of the gauge scale and is illuminated by a light guide. The light guide is disposed on a plane below the pointer and the gauge scale. The light guide includes at least two LEDs that are disposed adjacent first and second ends of the light guide. The light guide also includes a plurality of reflective elements. The plurality of reflective elements is disposed in sets that are orientated with regard to each of the LEDs. The reflective elements provide for the transmission and direction of light within the light guide into the guide body portion of the pointer.

Ring pointer illumination

A light housing for an instrument panel includes an interior surface for reflecting and blending light from a plurality of light sources substantially uniformly from an opening. The light housing is mounted to a circuit board and surrounds a plurality of light sources. An interior surface of the light housing includes inwardly protruding ribs that reflect and direct light to blend the separate light sources and provide a substantially uniform light intensity for illuminating a rotating pointer.

Pointer light housing

An instrument cluster assembly includes an outer gauge that is disposed about an inner gauge. The inner gauge is flood lit and the outer gauge is back lit. A single light guide assembly receives light from a plurality of light source exposed about an outer perimeter of the outer gauge. Light directed through the light guide is emitted through a light emitting edge to illuminate the inner gauge. Light traveling from the light source through the light guide is uniformly transmitted through a curved transition portion to back light the outer gauge assembly.

Flood and back lit instrument cluster

A light guide assembly for illuminating an instrument surface includes a continuous curved transition portion for uniformly directing and transmitting light from a light source to a backlight surface of the instrument surface. The curved shape of the transition portion is tailored to transmit a desired amount of light into the backlight portion and a desired amount outwardly against a back surface of the instrument surface.

High light-efficiency illumination cluster

An instrument cluster assembly includes a first instrument cluster graphic and a second instrument cluster graphic. The second instrument cluster graphic is superimposed on the first instrument cluster graphic.

Ultraviolet light instrument cluster

A seat assembly including a vehicle seat and a system for rotating a vehicle seat are provided wherein the system is designed to carry integrated seat restraint loads. The seat includes a base having a lower base section and an upper base section which supports the vehicle seat on an upper surface thereof. A reversible DC motor and a transmission including a drive screw are supported on the lower base section. A flexible cable couples an output shaft of the DC motor to the drive screw which rotates about a horizontal axis upon actuation of the DC motor. The transmission also includes a drive nut threadedly mounted on the drive screw to move along the substantially horizontal axis upon actuation of the motor. The transmission further includes a link coupled to the upper base section and the drive nut to transmit linear motion of the drive nut to rotary motion of the upper base section. The system also includes a bearing assembly having a plurality of thrust bearings which rotatably supports the upper base section on the lower base section. The lower base section includes a tongue portion clamped between the thrust bearings. The system provides a compact structure which fits completely under the vehicle seat and is capable of carrying the integrated seat restraint loads including shoulder belt load and lap belt load.
