A vehicle body exoskeleton includes a plurality of nodes each defining a receptacle. A plurality of tubes have first and second end portions smaller than and tapering inwardly from a main portion. Each end portion is received in one of the receptacles. An adhesive is applied to the end portions filling a gap defined between the receptacles and the end portions to bond the tubes to the receptacles.

A vehicle body includes a non-metallic member, metallic disk, and metallic member. The metallic disk is rigidly affixed to the non-metallic member such that a periphery of the disk is encompassed by the non-metallic member while an outer surface of the disk remains exposed. The metallic member is secured to the non-metallic member by a spot weld extending from the metallic member, through the outer surface, and into the disk.

A body side joint structure for an automotive vehicle has a support member extending longitudinally rearward from a front end member with a distal end secured in overlapping relationship laterally inward of a hinge pillar of an adjacent body side member. A hinge reinforcement member is attached on a laterally inner surface of the distal end of the support member and door hinge brackets are attached on an outer surface of the hinge pillar which together provide a clamping load to the joint layering of the body side and front end, thus resulting in an improved lateral load path.
