A surgical device for severing a targeted tissue structure embedded within biological tissue of a patient includes a solid needle having an elongated length and extending lengthwise between opposing first and second ends. The solid needle includes an outer surface and a needle cross-sectional dimension, A hollow needle is slidingly received along the solid needle. The hollow needle includes a needle passage having a passage cross-sectional dimension. A surgical filament is operatively connected to the solid needle and has a filament cross-sectional dimension. The passage cross-sectional dimension can be greater than the sum of the needle cross-sectional dimension and the filament cross-sectional dimension such that the solid needle and the surgical filament can co-extend through the needle passage in substantially freely sliding relation to the hollow needle. A surgical device kit and methods of use are also included.

Endolumenal restriction method and apparatus

A fishing lure having a buoyant housing containing a power source and an electronic controlling element. A pair of conduction lines may connect the power source with a submersible module which contains an actuator, a means for propelling the submersible module through the water, and a hook. An elongate member or cable may also be used to connect the buoyant housing with the submersible module. A means for increasing/decreasing the length of conduction lines (and optional cable) between the buoyant housing and the submersible module may also be used. Some embodiments operate an electric motor with a propeller, fin, or tail. Some embodiments utilize contacts which may be bridged by water in order to energize the submersible module.

A container closure device for facilitating withdrawal of a liquid from a collapsible sealed packet is disclosed. The device includes a needle guide and a septum retainer wherein the needle guide is fixable to an outer face of the packet and the septum retainer is fixable to an inner face of the packet in alignment with the needle guide. The needle guide includes a tube for receiving a needle and insures proper alignment of the needle. The septum retainer includes a septum chamber having a septum disposed therein.

A micropump comprising a pump body including a fluid inlet channel, a fluid outlet channel and pumping reservoir, the fluid inlet channel and the fluid outlet channel communicating with the pumping reservoir, a diaphragm covering the pumping reservoir, a piezoelectric strip actuator attached to the diaphragm such that by applying a voltage to the actuator, the diaphragm can be raised or lowered relative to the pumping chamber, a valve on the inlet channel and the outlet channel, the valve opening and closing the inlet and the outlet channel in response to the raising and lowering of the diaphragm.

A device and method for delivering an aerosolized liquid having therapeutic properties to a user's lungs. The compact and convenient device includes a housing of such size that it can be held in a user's one hand with an exit opening in the housing for directing the aerosol to the user's mouth. The housing encloses a dispensing system for containing the liquid to be aerosolized and delivering it to an electrohydrodynamic apparatus and an electrohydrodynamic apparatus for aerosolizing the liquid and delivering the aerosol to the exit opening. The electrohydrodynamic apparatus produces a cloud of aerosolized liquid droplets having a monodispersed respirable droplet size and near zero velocity. The aerosolizing apparatus includes a plurality of spray sites each having a tip end, the spray sites cooperating with a charge source to result in an aerosolized spray from at least one tip end, a plurality of discharge electrodes downstream of the tip ends, and a plurality of reference electrodes downstream of the plurality of discharge electrodes.

Pulmonary aerosol delivery device and method

A piezoelectric micropump is disclosed for pumping fluid from a container to a delivery point in low volumes and at controlled flow rates. The pumping action is created by movement of two or three diaphragms. The movement of each diaphragm is caused by expansion and contraction of an attached piezoelectric actuator. Coordination of the movement of the diaphragms creates unidirectional flow of the fluid. The piezoelectric actuators are cantilevered between the pump body and the diaphragms to provide greater deflection of the diaphragms. The piezoelectric actuators preferably are piezoelectric bimorphs such that the diaphragms can function as both seals and pumps.

A method and apparatus for disintegrating and otherwise destroying a syringe needle through total and complete incineration. This apparatus being contained within a housing having an orifice through which a syringe needle is continuously inserted, engaging a first conductive plate shaped and positioned so as to accept a vast majority of all commercial needles, then engaging a movable second conductive plate movable within the housing from a first position immediately adjacent to the first conductive plate to a second position commensurate to the length of said needle, actuating a switch which, when closed, permits an electric current to emanate from a suitable power source to pass between a first and second electrical contact disposed upon the first and second conductive plates such that the needle is subjected to electrical current sufficient to immediately disintegrate it along its entire length with a resultant caplike mushroom cover at the distal end of the needle remnant effectively eliminating needle reuse or leakage of mediation or body fluid.
