A hall effect current sensor including a mounting bracket, a sensor assembly, and a sensor core. The sensor assembly includes a flux sensor. The sensor core includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion and the second portion define a first air gap and a second air gap between the first portion and the second portion. The first air gap is adapted to receive the sensor assembly.

A method and apparatus for configuring a current carrying and current sensing configuration using a rigid magnetically permeable guide core extending between facing first and second guide ends, the first and second ends of the core defining a sensing gap having a sensing dimension therebetween, an internal surface of the core forming a core space, the method including sliding a segment of a conductor through the sensing gap and into the core space such that the conductor extends through the core space, attaching a flux sensor to a clip member and mounting the clip member within the sensing space such that the sensor is within the sensing space.

A method and apparatus for sensing magnetic field flux formed by current passing through a conductor, the apparatus comprising a rigid magnetically permeable core extending between facing first and second ends and formed about a conductor receiving space, the first and second ends forming first and second guide couplers, respectively, and defining a mounting gap therebetween having a mounting gap dimension, a resilient clip member including first and second clip couplers at oppositely facing first and second edges, respectively, the first and second guide couplers operably receiving the first and second clip couplers, respectively, to mount the clip within the mounting gap with a sensing space formed on a first side of the clip member between the first and second ends and a magnetic flux sensor mounted to the first side of the clip member substantially within the sensing space.

Snap fit Hall effect circuit mount apparatus and method

A motor controller includes a set of thyristors which couple the motor to a source of alternating electricity. A detector senses when the voltage of the source makes a zero crossing. A mechanism is provided to vary the frequency of a clock signal at a rate determined by a user selectable input which represents the rate at which the motor speed is to change during starting or stopping. The clock signal is applied to a counter which produces an active trigger signal when a given number of clock signal cycles have been counted following a zero crossing of the source voltage. The active trigger signal causes a brief trigger pulse to be applied to gate electrodes of the thyristors. The varying frequency of the clock signal alters the relative times at which the thyristors are triggered to vary the amount of voltage applied to the motor. Different frequency variation functions can be stored in a memory for the starting and stopping modes.

Apparatus for controlling an electric motor

A three-phase electric motor is coupled to each phase line of an electric source by pairs of SCR's coupled in inverse parallel relationship. One of the SCR's in each pair is triggered by a signal from a conventional motor control circuit which regulates the phase angle at which the SCR turns on. The other SCR in each pair is an optically triggered device which is activated by light emitted from an LED in one of the legs of a three-phase rectifier bridge in the control circuit power supply. When the LED within a leg of the power supply is forward biased so as to conduct current, it emits light which triggers a correspondingly biased opto-SCR to supply current to the motor. A separate transistor is connected in parallel across each of the LED's to provide a current shunt path when the motor is to be turned off so that the LED does not emit light and trigger the SCR.

Motor controller with optical SCR's

An electric load controller having a modular construction with the logic circuitry located in an enclosure. This circuitry comprises a microprocessor, I/O interface and a memory for storing the computer program to be executed by the microprocessor. The control logic supplies signals via the I/O interface to a set of three modules which switch the three phase electric current to the load. The switch modules each having a separate enclosure containing thyristors which apply the electricity to the load in response to control logic signals. The switch modules are mounted on a heat sink and the logic circuit enclosure is mounted on the switch modules. A protection circuit module may be included that provides a metal oxide varistor and a capacitor connected across each phase of the electric power.
