A closure for dispensing product from a container having a film seal across the mouth of the container finish includes a base having a deck that is adapted to overlie the film seal on the container finish and a dispensing opening in the deck. A lid is secured by a hinge to an edge of the base for overlying the deck. A spud is aligned with the dispensing opening and secured to the cover by one or more frangible elements. The spud is adapted, after rupture of the frangible elements, to move into the dispensing opening in the deck either directly or through an intervening spout, to pierce the film seal, and thereafter to function as a plug seal when the lid is closed.

A pump dispenser for liquid products includes a pump chamber having a cylinder, and a piston slidable within the cylinder with an outlet passage extending through the piston. A spring within the chamber urges the piston to an extended position. An inlet opening is disposed at an end of the chamber for receiving product to be dispensed. An inlet check valve is positioned at the inlet opening to permit entry of product into the chamber as the piston is extended by the spring, but to prevent exit of product from the chamber through the inlet opening as the piston is depressed against the spring. An outlet check valve is carried by the piston within the outlet passage to permit discharge of product from the chamber through the outlet passage as the piston is depressed against the spring. The outlet valve includes a concave valve body of flexible resilient construction opening away from the chamber and having an external periphery in radial surface-to-surface resilient sealing contact with an opposing radially inwardly facing wall surface of the outlet passage.

Pump dispenser for liquid products

A closure and container package includes a container having a finish with a mouth opening through which product is both filled into and dispensed from the container. A closure includes a base mounted on the finish and having an opening aligned with the mouth opening of the container finish. A lid is connected to the closure base by an integrally molded hinge to pivot between an open position in which the lid is spaced from the opening in the base and a closed position in which the lid is adjacent to the base. The lid includes facility for engaging either the mouth opening of the container or the opening in the closure base to close such openings in the closed position of the lid. In particularly preferred embodiments of the invention, a fitment is removably carried by the lid. The fitment has a dispensing opening and a peripheral snap bead for engagement with either the container finish or the closure base to secure the fitment in position, such that the fitment thereafter provides the dispensing opening through which product can be dispensed from the container, and the lid cooperates with the fitment to open and close the dispensing opening.

A dispensing package for fluid products includes a container having a body for holding a product to be dispensed and a finish having an open mouth. A closure base includes a ledge with a skirt externally secured to the container finish and a wall extending from the ledge coaxially with the container mouth. A collar has a deck with a central opening aligned with the mouth, and a wall secured to the wall on the closure base. A lid is integrally connected to the collar or the base by at least one hinge. A dispensing valve of flexible resilient elastomeric construction has a peripheral portion captured between the collar deck and the base wall for securing the valve in position and simultaneously functioning as a seal between the base and the collar. An intermediate portion of the valve is in facing engagement with the collar deck, and an annular wall portion of the valve extends from the inner end of the intermediate portion. An inner portion of the valve extends radially inwardly from the annular wall portion and has at least one dispensing slit for dispensing product from the container.

Fluid dispensing closure, package and method of manufacture

This pump body is mounted on a container and has a forward manually operated pump and a rearward vertical container fill conduit. In the filling process, the container is filled through the conduit, and a closure is then applied to the top of the conduit. The closure may be part of the pump body housing. Multiple containers with their pump bodies may be filled simultaneously.

A toggle-action dispensing closure includes a base having an upper edge, and internal thread or bead for securement to a container, and a recessed deck disposed beneath the upper edge and having a fluid dispensing opening. A dispensing disk or actuator is pivotally mounted to the base above the deck, and includes a seal for cooperating with the dispensing opening for selectively opening and closing the dispensing opening. A lug element on a periphery of the disk has a sharp edge in opposed abutment with the upper edge of the base to resist first movement of the actuator to open the dispensing opening. First movement of the actuator to open the dispensing opening causes permanent deformation at the upper edge of the base and/or at the lower edge of the element, such that the element and the edge present lesser resistance to opening of the actuator after such first opening.

This pump body is mounted on a container and has a forward manually operated pump and a rearward vertical container fill conduit. A dispensing package that includes a container having a body with a shoulder of predetermined peripheral contour and a dispensing closure assembly secured to the finish container. The dispensing closure assembly includes a dispensing engine having a base secured to the container finish and a valve element mounted to the base for opening and closing a dispensing opening in the engine base. A shell has an upper surface with a pocket within which the base of the dispensing engine is mounted so that the valve element is flush with the upper surface of the shell in the closed position of the valve element. The shell pocket has a base wall against which the engine base rests, and the engine base extends through an opening in the shell base wall for securement to the container finish. The shell is firmly captured between the dispensing engine and the container shoulder. The shell has an outer peripheral wall that depends from the upper surface to adjacent the shoulder of the container. The shell is firmly captured between the dispensing engine and the container shoulder. The shell peripheral wall has a contour matching the peripheral contour of the container shoulder, such that the peripheral wall is flush and blends with the container sidewall and shoulder. The dispensing engine may be employed in conjunction with shells having differing peripheral wall configurations, so that a single dispensing engine can be used in conjunction with plural container configurations.

Outward flanges on top of pump outlet tube include a rearward latching section. The shroud is open-fronted. Extending downward along the top wall of the shroud are a pair of opposed channels to the rear of which are unitary downward locking wedges. In assembly, the open-fronted shroud is moved forward from the rear onto the pump body in a simple uni-directional linear movement, the channels receiving the outward flanges respectively. The wedges forcefully engage and pass the latching sections and take positions in front of them to block retreat of the shroud.
